Everyone remembers buying their first record but what was the first “grown up” book you bought?
Mine was Wheels of Terror by Sven Hassel when I was about 12. Just looked him up and he only died in 2012 at the age of 95 after many years of accusations of being a complete fraud.
Anyway, what was your first?

I wouldn't have actually bought it but Stig of the Dump was the first book I remember reading by myself.

I probably didn't actually buy a book until I was in my 20s. Never without one now.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

used to read anything by Asimov & the horror compendiums / short stories.
also devoured all the bond books once discovered.

sadly read very little comparatively now, mixture of laziness & time.

One I remember being passed around was A Clockwork Orange which was a bit different to the Richard Allen Skinhead books I think everyone was expecting.

Great choice. He was a great writer. Tended to use complicated titles at that time though!
