The opposite actually. I specialise in recognising when I either have insufficient subject expertise, or insufficient information to form a firm view.

That was sort of my point.

Shame you donít specialise in recognising that football is all about opinions and an emotive subject - especially if youíre a long standing Palace fan and especially around TDD.

I get that. But if people donít like having an ill-informed opinion criticized, then perhaps they shouldnít post.

If you come to a fork in the road, take it.

I do recognise that. But there's a difference between having a (sometimes passionate) opinion and just talking bollocks.

Thatís absolutely true. Itís also a good excuse if you wanted a way out.
The real problem regardless, is, we have needed not one ,but two, fullbacks since AWB, left..And this is the result of knowing that for months. If nothing happens before 11pm it can be taken that no backup was in place ,let alone any chance of a second fullback.
It doesnít look as if getting cover for fullback, was the priority it should have been.

But surely we are in exactly the same place before AWB burst on the scene. Right backs award /Kelly left backs PVA/ Schlup/Reidewald (in place of Papa). I agree Kelly is not a natural right back and is better at CB. But this is exactly where we were before AWB. So the cover is adequate, not exceptional, but adequate.

Itís right to say the situation hasnít changed much for a few seasons now. And as we sit on 30pts itís proved adequate.
The manager has made it clear,itís a situation that needs addressing, if we want sustainable progress, and as his tactics and use of average players out of their best positions is one good reason for us having that many points. Then it is adequate for now in his hands.
Going forward very doubtful.

In which case we address it in the summer rather than buying yet another crock

A teenage crock? I tend to think itís a youngster with an injury. We all had them. Very lucky if you escape them. Definitely doesnít mean heís got a life problem though

I agree. Never really understood the sense of urgency to replace AWB. Before he emerged it didn't seem as if a new right back was urgently required, so he was basically a massive bonus. That's why selling him made such sense - we got top money for a player we already had cover for in the squad.

Personally I also think that Schlupp is our best left back, even if he prefers to play on the wing. He's far more than just makeshift cover.

By all means plan long term by trying to get a promising youngster, or even get an established senior upgrade if a great deal comes along, but we surely have other priorities.

When you have the kind of money that changes hands in these deals, caution. Is totally expected. Sometimes you miss a bullet, but sometimes you miss a good deal.
Danny Gosling ,comes to mind,, still playing for Bournemouth, after failing a medical at Palace, years ago.
My feeling is, if we seriously wanted a fullback for this manager, then the deal should have been backed with a serious alternative.
