Doesnt help either that when changes are suggested in the nhs the doctors seem to have an overall say and enmass reject them out of hand.

There was a documentary a few years ago when half a dozen ex Health Secretaries of both colours discussed the NHS and all of them agreed that whatever suggestions were made the doctors automatically rejected them

Doctors see themselves as defenders of the NHS and yet it was the doctors who bitterly fought against the creation of the NHS. Later of course they flipped when they realised that the NHS gave them financial security rather than chasing patients for unpaid bills.

The BMA is a very effective trade union and yet some of its history is something they should not be proud of.

IMDB reviews are available here and two out of the three reviews are fairly damning

A sample of 3 is hardly representative is it?

No-one should pass judgement until they have actually watched the film! The reviews, and responses here, all raise some points which cannot be disagreed with but that isn't what is important about the film which did contain aspects I felt were deliberately over stated to hammer home the real point.

It identifies issues that I didn't know about and am pretty sure most of you won't either.

By the way my own view is that there is no reason at all why some service provisions within the NHS cannot be privatised. If commercial pressure delivers efficiency in both quality and cost terms, then it always makes sense to put such services out to tender.

Nor do I believe that the current funding model ought to be ring fenced for ever. Nothing should ever stand still in today's fast changing world. If change will provide benefit then change we should.

The key word though is quality. If that is lost because of a lack of oversight and the drive for profit then it's imperative that we know about it.

What was most concerning was the debt burden being carried by many NHS trusts as a consequence of the private finance initiatives. Debts that must be serviced before funds are allocated to care. These debts are huge and are having unseen consequences on how the NHS is organised.

Please watch it!
