We have one of the oldest squads in the PL. The main task will be to bring in younger players whilst deciding which of the current squad are worthy of a new contract.

We have only lost once in the last seven games during which time we have had at least six first choice players out injured.
This would suggest our squad is capable of maintaining our position in the league without new additions.
If this is an acceptable statement then our signings should only be players that strengthens our team as the 25 are good enough.
So what type of player should we be signing in January?

I would say that a winger is the only crucial signing we need to make in January. We really miss Townsend at the moment. If Wilf goes we need to sign two. Sako was a good back option last season. Hopefully some young lad with potential.

As others have said, we are not in a desperate position, so RB and striker can wait until summer

Priority has to be players who are injury free at the moment and ready to play.

There are a number of good players lower down the leagues we are hopefully scouting and desperate to make the jump up to the PL.

Versatility is essential. Players that can play in a number of positions if needed.

I am sure the scouts have been active for months looking, watching, assessing and recommending various players to Dougie.

Realistically I can see a couple of loans and perhaps 2 or 3 permanent signings.

As Roy has said we need the same players we identified in the summer window.

Personally I don’t see us making any permanent signings at all in this window. This window is notorious for paying well over the odds for players which is something we won’t do. Possibly one loan signing may come in to replace the one leaving but that’s it folks.

If I could have only have one signing it would be a Bolassie/Antionio type player - a pacy powerful type that can play on the wing or across the front line.
This would relieve the pressure on Wilf and give us a threat on the other flank.
It would help us to get up the field quicker and make the opposition full backs wary of pushing forward.
It would also help the midfield in terms of making forward passes.

Roy has requested 4 or 5 new players but in reality it will be three at the most. Right back and striker is a must.

Can’t believe people are saying we don’t need any new signings as this small squad is running on empty and needs fresh legs, it’s a miracle we are doing so well given all these injuries but we can’t wing it forever eventually the teet will run dry and we have been sucking on it for a long time now

Younger and less prone to injury, we are in a ridiculous situation at the moment. No replacement for AWB, bite and arse spring to mind. We are so stretched now, more than any other team in the division and it’s not like we have any of the 7 to 8 players coming back into contention...

Roy Hodgson's shopping list should be....

1 x Right back
2 x Strikers
1 x winger to compete with Zaha and Townsend.

Try and get rid of Benteke

Posted before ,Do we give roy funds to go forward and strengthen squad ? Or get safe and bring in new manager and start a rebuild for next season and long term.Roy has done miracles but he and like some players are coming to the end of there term ! .If we are going to progress as a club we need to strengthen at times like these (Hopefully safe) when we have sufficient time to rebuild, not when in a relegation scrap or before season starts.

It's going to depend hugely on whether Wilf goes or not. Can't see it personally but who knows? What we don't need is any more Jachs and Sorloths or players that Roy inexplicably brings in but then doesn't play.

Sell Wilf to Chelsea but he stays for the rest of the season. Get Batshuayi, get Bowen from Hull, get another right back.

Yes, I think that is completely correct, a new centre forward will only come in when Benteke leaves I suspect.

Yes, but, by God, let's HOPE that Benteke leaves...If the rumours were true and they extend that 120k month contract.....
