Could turn out to be another Ayew or Jedi in that they need a season to adjust and get fit, but I'm not so sure, seems slow to react to situations then over-compensates by flying in, put in a woeful attempted through ball for Wilf to give the Arsenal full back the advantage the other day, he was a wunderkind but he looks an over-rated crock with a distinct lack of attacking flair to me - hope I'm wrong and he improves, but I've got definite doubts now based on what I've seen - hope he makes a fool of me but my expectations have become lower.

Just what we need......another thread slagging off a player who is just making his way back after serious injury.

it's not a matter of disloyalty or negativity, I've given him the benefit of the doubt, heard he tears it up in training but he's had a run of games and I'm not convinced - as I said I really hope he proves me wrong, you obviously think he should get more time before we write him off, fair enough, another point of view … can you not express that without getting on your high horse, just talk about the football ffs.

It's not unfair to say whilst he is keen and generally tries to get involved, he seems to mostly give away fouls . His last game was his best by far.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

I think he's been just fine.

Don't think we should have spent the money on him though.

This thread is getting confusing. Jimmy should be reserved for McArthur and James should be McCarthy. We managed to get rid of Sako but at least they had totally different first names.

I tend to agree with the OP. Doesn’t have much about him. No stand out qualities and is rather non existent. I found it to be an uninspiring signing when we got him.

However, he is being used as a back up and is only really playing due to the injury crisis. He’s certainly behind Luka, Jimmy Mac, Schlupp, Kouyate and probably now Reidewald in the pecking order for a CM. He’s a solid enough squad player.

Don't forget he has hardly played for about 2 years, he will need a lot more games to get back to being the excellent player that he was.

All our midfielders should shoot more often. Scoring goals is what it’s all about. Maybe Roydoesnt like many but that’s what I’m paying for

I'm not sure I agree with the sentiment here. He seems a lot more feisty than I expected and I think if he stays in the team he'll prove some doubters wrong. One thing I will say though is I hope someone else is on free-kicks after some poor ones from him last time out. Riedewald looked much more accomplished in this regard.

I don’t agree myself with the negativity around McCarthy. I think he offers us something completely different than the rest of our midfielders and done ok in every game he has started. No worse than Luka has been this season and his tackling is a big plus. He is not afraid to get stuck in which is something we definitely needed.

£3 mill? Providing Roy wanted him - doesn't seem outrageous?
