McCarthy was brilliant today he did a great job on DeBruyne. He is so much more mobile than a Luka and just as tenacious in the tackle. Great asset to our squad.

Is this a wind up?

Find us another player who can go to Man City, play like that and cost us 3 million.

Terrific deal.

He may be good, but the point is there are too many purely defensive midfielders.

1 starter is enough. With 1 backup. And the other one should be someone like Jimmy Macca or Cabaye, more attack minded.

So, if we like McCarthy so much after the City game, let him or Kouyate start and sell Luka.

2 of them starting at the same time will still mean we're one of the poorest teams in terms of scoring, if not THE poorest.

I wouldn’t class McCarthy as a defensive midfielder, he is different type of player than all of our midfielders but he is very comfortable on the ball and loves a tackle. We have 4 centre midfield players and none of them would be classed as an out and out attacking midfielder/midfielder but why do we need one when that is not the way Roy plays. Roy has a system and that’s just the way it is. Like it or lump it.

McArthur, Cabaye, Tomkins, Van Aanholt, Townsend, Schlupp, Kouyate, Ayew, Cahill and now McCarthy.

Granted we don't often look to bring in untried Championship talent, but if you look at the club's record at bringing in players with plenty of Premier League experience (who aren't past it), then you have to give credit to Parish.
It's proved a pretty solid strategy and the outlay hasn't been too great. The exception has been Sakho because he can't keep fit and cost far too much, but still a player.

I ain't got nuthin' funny to say. Sorry.

You clearly haven’t been paying attention to the way Roy sets the team up

Whilst there's not a lot of goals or flair in the midfield the idea that they're all defensive isn't true either. Kouyate and the two JMs are decent box to box players.

Would be nice to see a few more goals from midfield but Roy's just setting up to players' strengths.

Good to see his dead ball delivery. Hopefully he can keep that on full time. Finally we score from a corner
