Voter ID laws have emerged in the last decade as part of a wider push by Republican legislatures, ostensibly with the aim of curbing voter fraud, says University of Wisconsin-Madison professor Kenneth Mayer. But he says the laws' real aim is to keep voters who are more likely to vote Democrat - like the young, poor or African-Americans - at home.

Voter suppression in the USA by the Republicans has left many likely democrat voters unable to vote.

The tories are trying to do the same here.

Despite this Biden miles in front, didn't work this time.

So are this demographic more likely to commit vote fraud? Whilst what is happening to suppress anything in the UK, except for basic ID checks? And why would they be needed?
These arguments can be turned around, a but like many of these type of arguments. Much like the entire rhetoric of BLM. Matters when a cop kills someone - doesn't matter when a 'brother' shoots or stabs someone. The double standards are astonishing and actually racist - but I won't be calling them racist. I'm not that offended.
One that got me today is some states have stopped convicted felons from voting, I'm not sure what the federal law is. However, there were the usual people with T-shirts saying things like 'let my people vote'. Felons constitute 'my people' now. Presumably they're an homogenous group. I'm personally not enamoured with convicted felons doing anything. Admittedly a small percentage will be wrongly or harshly convicted. But it's hardly 'my people' and there's no pressing need to give a f@ck about convicted felons as far as I'm concerned. They'll all be out soon enough anyway - if the loonies get their way. Which seems ever increasingly likely.

Not true. I checked id's when they ran a pilot in Bromley there was no problem with id's.

To be able to vote you needed a drivers licence (most people have one) or a passport or a Freedom Pass or utility bills with your name on and there were other forms of id as wwll.

If you cannot prove your id how did you end up on the electoral role in the first place?

If you do not have a credit card, bank account utility bills in your name don't have a DL or a Passport or a birth certificate then who the hell are you?

Labour don't like this because possibly some of their voters might not be entitled to vote or they just want to scare their supporters.

In the whole day of voting I checked something like 300-400 id's most people welcomed it.

The full cavity search was a little spurious in my opinion though.

Debating. Just because people have a more balanced, less emotional point of view doesn't make them weak.

Once again, let's wait for the courts to decide. Although I sense that even if it does manage to get to the Supreme court and the decision goes against your opinion even with a 6-3 republican bias, you will still not choose to accept it. Indoctrination, as always, is never a good look.

How's the business? I can only assume it's not going well from the state of your posts? It's OK to not be OK. Although you're probably doing fine, but in case you're not, maybe you should start campaigning for that nhs/education state rebate. Could help to pay for those iron bars you've been thinking of installing on the windows.

I think Tucker Carlson sums up where the Republicans are right now......Sidney Powell or bust.

Man, that would be soooo spicy.

No it's not. It's full of mizzle at the moment and in summer it's full of tourists.

The people who live here are divided into two main groups. The locals and the incomers. Whilst they share many cultural things together some are unique to the locals. The sport of Cornish wrasslin for instance has much more in common with similar sports in Breton than anything English. There are many male voice choirs here with a traditional repertoire and distinct culture. You won't see the Furry dance anywhere other than in Helston on May 8th each year.

Of course there are regional variations everywhere but when theyíre not wrestling or dancing with each other Cornish people have more cultural similarities with Newcastle than with Rennes.
Why is this contentious? Itís just acknowledging cultural differences not claiming one is better or worse than another.
