If they disapprove of your conduct then all they can do is not use you any more as a freelancer. It strikes me as disingenuous that those who are often bleating about free speech being eroded then complain when someone exercises their right to make their opinions known, just because they don’t share those opinions. These are stories about nothing!

If you don’t work for the BBC they cannot discipline you. If they disapprove of your conduct then all they can do is not use you any more as a freelancer.

It strikes me as disingenuous that those who are often bleating about free speech being eroded then complain when someone exercises their right to make their opinions known, just because they don’t share those opinions.

Paul Mason’s connections to the Labour Party have been no secret for many years. That he was also a BBC journalist, but isn’t now, is beside the point.

We just don’t have them “all the time”!

It’s undoubtedly true that collectively journalists tend to be more socially aware than others and that this tends to mean they are more likely to hold left of centre views than right.

That’s just the nature of the profession, what it requires and what it brings. It doesn’t mean that professionals cannot be professional in their business life.

My friend who worked for both the Express and the Mail was always a socialist in his personal life but a consummate professional in his business life.
