Overall BBC Verify does a really good and very useful job. Like everyone they are going to be tricked sometimes or make the odd mistake. Big deal. This is just part of the co-ordinated campaign by the right to try to destroy the BBC.

I don’t agree. The BBC continues to provide a very valuable service to us directly and for us indirectly. The last thing we want to impose on them is control by the government of the day and their revenue dependant on them. They must never become, or be perceived to be, a mouthpiece of the government. Nor must they be reliant on advertising for their revenue and all the baggage that brings. They must be free of outside influences of every kind. If those purchasing a licence continues to decline then I can see it being merged with the broadband contracts most of us have, with the licence remaining available for those without. The bbc ARE reliant on advertising tho, for those of us who live outside of the UK, the bbc world news constantly advertises in between its boring woke segments all day, everyday. So, the bbc can & should look to bring in advertising revenue, in the UK, as it does where it is available across the world, as a sustainable revenue stream so the British public can spend their hard earned money on things that matter, ie, food, heating etc. Edited by eagleman13 (20 Mar 2024 5.27pm)

Who's shocked that the guy who's hobby is accidently stumbling onto gay nudist beaches also loves cross dressing comedy. I dread to think what he's got stuffed in his draws.....If he starts an Only Fans I'm leaving the country. Edited by Stirlingsays (20 Mar 2024 5.50pm)

None of the comedy depends on it. Lily Savage and Dame Edna Everage were also cross dressing characters. I suppose they weren’t funny either! It’s the writing that makes them funny. Not the cross dressing.

Not sure it would be funny if it were a typical female Irish mammy giving the guests the good biscuits from the tin of USA biscuits. I thought that it is a guy is the whole point. Over my head obviously.

It’s almost worth finding out what an “only fans” is and starting one, if that result is the outcome! Portraying something that happened once by accident as a hobby reaches a new depth of ridiculousness.

Over my head obviously. I think him playing it as a parody of the typical Irish matriarch is part of the humour but there is a lot more. The interwoven family relationships are well observed. If you were able to watch the episode when grandad wants to attend his own funeral and Father Quinn thinks he has raised him from the dead without raising a smile then there’s something wrong with you. It’s hilarious.
