Dyche won more games than he lost at Watford and the new Italian owners replaced him with Zola.

On Powell's CV is the fact that he was sacked by Charlton, Huddersfield and Derby, accordingly it would seem that he is not attractive to PL Boards looking for a manager.
Would Powell even be suggested on HOL if he wasn't an Ex-player?

Agree Dyche had a decent record at Watford, but he was still sacked going by your rule of thumb.

Powell was sacked by Charlton but he got them promoted. He was assistant at Derby to McLaren not manager. Huddersfield was barely there in a club that were on a downward spiral

Would he mentioned if he wasn't an ex player? maybe not but neither was Southgate when he was sacked by Borough and think he has been a success. The way to find out more is for Parish to phone Southgate and ask him what he thinks of his assistant ?

Why would SP want to do that? To ask GS if his assistant has had any experience at managing a mid-table Premiership club?

I meant to post that Powell was sacked by Charlton, Huddersfield and Southend.
Powell was caretaker at Derby for a couple of games.

At Huddersfield he took over after 5 games with the team in 20th position and that season they finished 16th.The following season he was sacked after 15 games with the team 18th in the table. His Assistant at Huddersfield was Alex Dyer.

Alex Dyer is now managing in Scotland. Hardly a test bed for future Premiership management

I like Powell but again a lack of experience has to be an issue. He also has no track record of real success.

When he took over at Southend after 28 games they were 20th out of 24 and they finished the season in 10th place.
The following season, Southend were 20th when Powell departed after 39 games.I believe he signed around 12 players, some on 'Loan'.
Powell's assistants at Southend were Damian Matthew and Kevin Keen.

To ask him of his capabilities?

Not really a runner as he has never really done that well. Dyche or Howe far more likely.
As Roy hasn't walked out yet over lack of funds, we may as well stick with him. I don't see us spending money this transfer window either.

Dyer was and is assistant to Steve Clarke for Scotland as well as Kilmarnock boss.

I don't tend to go with the 'experience' as a necessity. Getting Charlton up and playing for England as as much as Southgate had done, or Dyche before he got Burnley up. Wilder got promotion with lower league clubs but he was shown patience by owners

Cowley sacked by Huddersfield, obviously a club with high expectations of themselves. Derby was assistant. Probably easier to judge on his Charlton and Southend career. Got Charlton promoted and Southend was about in about the same position when he left as when he started.

I'd have thought as a assistant to Southgate he has something about him. It's about opportunity or at least giving an opportunity to get an interview?

Stephen Reid who coached at Palace is also 0art of the Scotland set up. I had hoped he was to be groomed to succeed Roy.

Has Chris Powell so far done anything to demonstrate he is ready to manage in the PL? IMHO , no.

Having said that, might be a good appointment as a number 2 to be mentored to a top role.

Let's see SP and the board trying to line up for a piss in the AW toilets at half time before peddling the new stand. We're the Arthur over here and the facilities are a disgrace

He's probably had enough of being someone else's no.2.
