When working in pakistan we had access to “normal beers” through the British Club. Any pakistani who wished to purchase alcohol ( and there were a few!) had to be registered as an alcoholic as the country was dry. However they did have a brewery in Murree which produced a beer which, after 1 pint, gave you the most thumping headache, taste wise was ok but presumably designed so you couldn’t/wouldn’t drink too much.
Interesting place the brewery, remnant of the Raj, Murree was a summer hill station and in winter has heavy snow fall. Brewery now shut down not surprisingly

In Brunei you could only get alcohol if you were a Shell employee, they had done a deal otherwise nobody would have worked there

As a contractor I managed to get around that by joining the hash, running in the jungle followed by much beer.

Buckfast tonic wine brewed by monks drunk by mad eyed Scotsman.

Or Mead this became trendy for some reason a couple of years ago with some of the trendy craft beer joints selling it at ridiculous prices. Made hipsters vomit on their tweed britches.

The BHC had a hash club, never participated myself, preferred to wait for them in the Club

Chambord. I almost threw up there and then.

An honourable mention to Drambuie and Aftershock, also probably vile.

I played rugby as a teenager 1980s for Deal Wanderers in the run down club house behind the bar was a drink called lord help us which consisted of out of date spirits mixed together. At the time whisky, gin etc was around 70p a shot but you could have a shot of lord help us for 50p proved very popular when running short of money 1st shot was unspeakably bad but by the 3rd improved no end. happy days

Today I received confirmation that Mitcham is civilised.

I needed to use a toilet and was told by the barmaid that only customers could use the toilets.

I bought a half of lager for £1.90, and left it on the bar while I had my visit.

As i was driving, i offered the untouched half to a table of three men. I left the pub with an empty bladder and a pound (for the beer) in my pocket.

Result!

Toilets should be free to use in public places especially as council ones are disappearing, Bromley has axed theirs years ago.
