You can teach people most things, but being driven and motivated you canít.
You can offer people more money/tell them they will
Get the sack if they donít do more. They will for a few weeks , but return to type unfortunately.
A good work ethic is half in you and half how you are brought up I think. My dad was a fireman, had 3 other jobs, proper grafter and did shifts so wasnít about all the time (Christmas etc).
Being proper skint in the past is a good motivator for me.
Iím a f*cking nutcase at work, love grafting, want to micro manage everything and get wound up if people arenít upto it. Want to be the hardest working when Iím in the gym, everything I do want to be the best.
Been doing a big refurbished at mine , my brother in law is helping and I get wound up how slow he f*cking moves and does stuff.
But being really driven isnít all good. I canít/donít want to relax, canít go on holiday for more than a week without wanting to be home to get on with stuff, the thought of retiring early abroad would kill me, if I won the lottery Iíd do the same stuff but on a bigger scale. Definitely OCD, 70% of our house has no ceilings/floors at the moment but Iíd never move my family out as I want my kids to see the graft that goes into getting something nice. Canít suffer fools, dismiss people that arenít like you as Ďlazy c*ntsí.
I could post pages and pages about this subject , fu*king love planning stuff, organising and grafting.
I find laziness such an unattractive quality in people.
Give me someone with effort and drive over ability any day of the week. We can teach them the rest.

Could have written this myself.

Am worth more than my mates yet havenít taken a holiday in years as canít stand to be away from the business.

Donít like relaxing, donít know how to relax. Relaxing seems like a waste. Only happy when pushing and achieving s***e.

That was my problem I would mentally take work home with me which led to stress and sleepless nights. It's no good telling people it's only work, you are what you are.

Since I retired I have now found a way to relax through yoga I no longer miss work and I am glad to be out of it in this current environment.

If you enjoy work keep going until you don't. When you do decide to retire make sure you have a plan. Doing nothing is also bad for your health so find an interest.

If I was living with casual my plan would be to look where I was walking before I retire

Quite agree about working hard. But I did it to retire at the same time as my wife ( older than me ). I went freelance, worked away from home ( sometimes working 12 hours/day ).

I retired at 53. Now I have more income and time than I need. I don't miss working at all, but I wish I had taken it easier when I was working and balanced the work /life balance idea better.

I didn't know at the time how the future would pan out and I didn't want to feel hard up when I did retire.

At the risk of upsetting some people the new "Lazy" has to be a lot of Central and Local Government workers - not all by any means - who are furloughed at 100% of their money and have their Union saying that they MUST NOT go back to work nor be pressured to do so.
It is the furlough and working from home that does it for me though - most of them need to be at work to work as you can't have people sitting at their kitchen table with access to some seriously secure websites and on top of that many of them need to talk to the public on a daily basis and right now you can't talk to them because they are (not) working from home.
Rant over!

Why do today what you can do tomorrow?
One day I'll translate it into Latin.

I used to put the manager's name in front of Red and Blue but got fed up with changing it. If someone cool becomes our manager then maybe..
