Mate

I like "Hodgesaurus" - made me laugh..!!

I do appreciate what you're saying.

The risk is different, not less. A £3m flop in the Championship is the equivalent to a £10m+ flop in the premiership due to the disparity in income.

The advantage that clubs in the championship have is that the players they sign get a little bit more time to develop and improve. Wakins' would not have been able to jump straight from League 1 to the Premiership. Many of the players they signed would not have had chance to get into our first team and a number of the players they have sold still wouldn't get into our first team.

If we try and remember realistically what life was like in the Championship, we had less money to spend than Brentford currently do, yet achieved promotion compared to teams with much bigger budgets. Hull, Cardiff, Brighton, Watford, Leicester and many others all had far greater resources than us the season we went up.

It's a bit bizarre that many Palace fans perceive the Brentford model to be more successful than our own. Success is based on the position in the League. We are in the Premiership, they aren't.

The club has to be viable, our stadium reflects our standing on the pitch, we're improving our Academy which is important to encourage new up and coming youngster's, we are only a few new additions from being able to compete with consistency which is what is required to achieve what you seem to be saying albeit OTT. Our Stadium though in all reality is a disaster and this you will find is holding us back hugely.

I'd love to say "note taken" on the OTT comment, but I'd be lying........Trying to de notch me only guarantees a 5 notch increase..........Aaaaanyway, what has all that got to do with better all round team performances on a consistent basis from a top 10 team....?

We don't press
We don't create space for ourselves/move wanting the ball
We rarely pass the forward with key passes.
We back off allowing players to run and cross into our box with ease
We lump the ball to Zaha and now Eze expecting them to create magic without them we got no ideas

The list goes on........When you strip it down to the bare bones away from all the deflections that has nothing to do with how we play on the pitch....With the team we've got we're so so much better than that!

Unless Roy wants to go he will be here next season he is the perfect manager for SP.

He keeps you in the league and doesn't really want to spend money plus he is happy with older players that a lot of other clubs are trying to clear out so cheap.

That is what SP cares about his pockets getting filled and control (this is why the club wont be sold)

I don't know why people bother to mention about the stadium that has nothing to do with this we could have unlimited resources and it still wouldn't happen the paper work for that has not been signed SP was begging for help regarding Sainsburys who have done nothing wrong so he can moan about them all he wants if he wants to progress pay the price.

Depends how you measure success. £115m for 6 players sold without destroying the team would probably sound like a match made in heaven for our US buddies.

Are you suggesting that it’s easier to find players, easier to integrate them and therefore easier to make money in the Championship? If that is the case maybe we should get relegated, make loads of money out of these easy to find players and build ourselves a new stadium because we don’t seem to have the money at the moment despite being in the PL for 8 years.

Perhaps serving up something attractive on the pitch should come first to get those fans of the future interested whilst thinking how to fill the extra seats at the new stadium.

Signing a new striker and not playing him in a game you may have a chance of winning is hardly going to have them cuing at the turnstiles!

Sorry, I don’t buy into that. We don’t buy low and sell high for the simple reason we haven’t got the talent in our scouting department to find them and because we are too busy holding on by the edge of our teeth to our PL survival. There is no future whatsoever in us having this approach.

How many duds have Brentford bought, because if you are buying them for peanuts you can always sell them on again for peanuts and there is no real loss? Players you buy do not have to always go directly into the first team, but it would appear from Brentford’s purchases that a lot of them do because they get it right. At £5.5m how much is Ivan Toney going to be worth next year, £20m plus?

The main point your missing whilst praising Brentford to the skies, is they are playing in an inferior league and can get away with developing young talent. There is no such luxury in the Premier, you need players to hit the ground running and able to compete.
If it was easy as you make out, why are the top Premier clubs buying players for millions, when they can buy someone for peanuts and develop them?

They don’t need to because they have the money to guarantee success. This was the point of this argument. We don’t have the money therefore we need to manage our team differently.

Enjoy the game, hopefully a win.

Well, I guess the usual pant-wetting suspects will be furious after tonight's result.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

It looks like Roy is a safe bet for the rest of the season now. Not only that we are 6 points off 5th place and a Euro spot.

Funny old game....
