I have a feeling this season the relegation battle 'mini-league' will be smaller than the usual 'everyone else' with about 5/6 teams really scrapping it out. It will most likely be Fulham, Burnley, Sheff U, WBA and perhaps a couple more. I sincerely hope BHA get drawn in there and we do not! Personally, I would not conclude that those in the bottom reaches will remain there until the end of the season.

If Burnley lose to us tonight they could feasibly be going into the new year with less than 10 points based on the fixtures they face after us. If they win it might give them some pluck and as Ferguson used to say, it's all about momentum. They have a rubbish squad though and I really feel for Dyche. They have experience and grit, but I just wonder if that'll be enough this season.

For me, there has been nothing unusual or even unjust about the bottom team's results, they've not picked up points because they have all been crap. I stand by my belief they are all deservedly languishing but we all know the influence of money on football these days and there is the possibility investment in January could see a shift in a team's standing.

If I was the Burnley board I would jog them on they are front men and have no money of their own as Charlton fans discovered, but they were very good at emptying the coffers at the valley.

do we really need to be having a conversation about relegation? We've got off to a better, if wildly inconsistent, start, than many expected, but be should be looking firmly forward rather than worrying if we're capable of sneaking into 16th place.

They dont look like a rag tag group.

Yes the transfer window could have a big say in who goes down but also the fact that there are bound to be managerial changes as the season drags on and chairmen start to panic.

I still look for the bottom group's results hoping they do not improve (banana at Turf Moor tonite?) After all, we always do it the hard way and I feel secure only when we have 36 points.
