Clyne has not played since February.
His injury problems in recent years have been well documented and he has been injured with us in recent months.
He is in the twilight of his career, is far from the player he was, probably in the main due to his injuries, and it is time for us to say 'Thank You' and 'Wish you all the best for the future'.

Then we have Ward and possibly Kelly (neither great, just Ward really). Possibly Ferguson at some stage in the next two years, or not. It's either buy or use what we have, or sign Clyne cheaply for the season. He's played plenty of pre season so the injuries are behind him. We have little choice. Ward gets injured then what? Chuck Kelly or a youngster in, not really great.

Personally I would try and acquire a full-back.
Clyne, even cheaply is not the answer and I believe I have been advocating strengthening this position for quite a while.

You sure i thought clyne played the first half of a recent friendly, being subbed by Ward

To be truthful I was not looking at his playing time in pre-season friendlies.
I was looking at his games in the cut and thrust of PL and FA Cup football.

I would describe Clyne as adequate. I would love us to buy a great RB but just can't see it happening, when we clearly have to get a wide man in.

Transfermarkt have him down as 'without a club' but I have no idea how accurate that site is.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Clyne definitely started both Walsall and Ipswich. - both of which looked first choice selections at the time. Then he came on against Reading which Ward started. Ward subbed in for him against Ipswich.

I completely agree with you this is not the weakest part of side so We have other priorities. If he stays we have adequate cover at full back until we see if Furgeson recovers and if his is EPL quality. Then if its seems he will not recover or is not good enough we should look to replace in January or next Summer.

Yep, another good piece of business.

As is pointed out here, he isn't the long-term future, but between him and Ward we will hold down the position for a while until Ferguson gets better or we find another.

Let's get that striker in, and I'll be happy going into the season.
