I like to think my country has left me to be fair, with its values and aims no longer matching my own.

A rather self orientated and individualistic outlook, but then those are the time we're in. To be honest I partially see it as a mindset you're walked yourself into, and are overlooking much that has not changed or that is good about those you possibly don't have time for.

On the other hand, if you're not happy somewhere there's little point staying for the sake of it, and it makes sense to spend time in places where you're more happy with life. Where you've worked hard enough for that to be an option, then an option it should be!

So let me get this straight.

Starmer sacks a shadow minister for supporting a Trade Union strike?

LOL.

You have to love Labour. This is the kind of s*** I adore.

Do we think Keir even has an idea about what the Labour Party are meant to represent?

Labours greatest achievement, the NHS.

Now in critical condition after 12 years of tory rule.

Where is the labour response, even if its difficult, what do we have yet more petty internal discipline.

This crisis would not be happening with Corbyn as PM, it may cost us an arm and a leg in taxes but it would be working.

'You can't trust the tories on the NHS'.

Of course that's true, Sunak's huge tax hike where has it all gone as if we didn't know.

Yes but that greatest achievement 74 years ago.

So the nhs works but weíve got no money, so our health deteriorates and more people need the nhs and then itís overrun as it is now. Nah I donít see that as viable.
The problem with the nhs is itís scared of change, scared to actually consider it might work better with change, a bit like the railways atm. The nhs wasnít designed to keep people alive , it was designed to get people better. Like the social system was designed as a safety net but now for millions itís a way of life.

The notion that the NHS can be 'fixed' by just throwing more money at it is perhaps the single biggest failure by the Left to comprehend what the crux of the issue is.

The NHS needs a major reimagining in terms of how it functions and what the public expectation of it is. Just telling people they need to pay more tax for what is already a vastly over-bloated organisation that clearly needs a massive overhaul is never going to work.

One example I always use is this notion that people can just book appointments then fail to keep them but are not penalised in anyway. There should be a strict system in place whereby people who miss one appointment in the space of a year are required to pay a small deposit before they are allowed to book another. They keep them, get it returned. Now of course that would require some tweaking and would fly in the face of the 'free at the point of use mantra' but people have to learn to value the service. If you believe that something like the NHS is a 'right', then that must also come with a sense of responsibility from the people using it as well.

And credit where it is due to the 'Left'. Powerful stuff.

Although this preponderance of white, working class, men, (even wearing ties! A huge bonus in my book) leading the charge seems a tad 'toxic' by modern standards but fair play, hard to disagree with what the man is saying.

Good idea.
Free at the point of use is a bit of a misnomer when prescriptions, dentists and opticians cost as much as they do; in England anyway. In Scotland prescriptions are free and dental/eye care is very much cheaper.

Progressivism is failing badly and being rejected even by people on the left. You can see the results of this as progressive politicians double down and become more and more insane and totalitarian.

The only question is what replaces it and the big threat is the WEF style corporatism/technocracy that has simply been wearing progressive clothes.

The NHS is broken and has been for decades.
Successive governments chuck money at it without a thought as to how it will be spent.
Blaming the last 12 years is a pathetic political stance without any sensible thought process.
I could argue that under Labour from 1997 that more beds were lost than in any other period - fact - but someone actually needs to break it up and start again because it is our biggest cost and probably worst performing public service given the cost.
