Finished 1-0. Some hefty challenges going in. Dreyher looked good off bench and Aveiro looks promising

A right 'horlicks' by Burnley near the end, we shall certainly take that.

Hard-fought they all look shattered.

You get such changes in personnel in the U23s so it is good to see some consistency.

Well done the lads.

FT 1-0 Palace

The U18 striker Omilabu scored after a palacesque cock-up by their defender allowing both out strikers(Gordon being the other one), to nick the ball & basically pass it in to the net.

Kelly played full 90+ mins & looke assured, our LB Hamman is becoming a good player, defends AND sets up attacks as well as joining in them, made Capt today.

Two things i noticed, all the players, except our 2 CB's, although small at least tried to jump & head the ball & a worrying number of players going down with cramp. O'Brien looked comfortable next to Kelly & didnt embarrass himself, Mathews had, imo, a quiet game as did Hales & Giddings.

All i all a good run out for Kelly & in Omilabu we have a star in the making. Hard fought but welcome 3pts.

On some of the Palace Facebook pages there is a constant refrain about giving the kids a chance in the first team on the grounds that they can't do worse than the current incumbents, rather ignoring the fact that there is huge gulf between U23 football and the Premier League version.

I have often asked who of the U23s they would give a chance to. The response is usually silence.

But, possibly, one or two may turn out to have what it takes. I've always liked the look of Luke Dreher and it is such a shame he has been out for so long with injury. He did look very assured when he came on this afternoon and hopefully he will be able to get back to where he was 18 months ago when he was in and around the first team squad.

This was partly covered at half time by Mark Bright & the comm, it's to do with the seperate 'bubbles' each group is in. As they were playing at SP they were not allowed to use the 1st teams dressing room, they had to use the old 'family lounge' in block H. Tho where the Burnley lads changed I'm not sure, it did seem as if they were using the lower holmesdale. Hopefully someone on here might know the answer.

I gained the impression from Mark Bright's comments that this lad had had four trials at other clubs and was wanting out of CPFC because he wasn't getting game time. Bright seemed to infer (but I may be wrong) that Aveiro hasn't been prepared to put the work in in the past, although to be fair, he tried hard yesterday so may have got the message (he came off the bench by the way after the Imray injury).

I am baffled as well reading those kind of messages.
There seem to be a general idea that since AWB was played straight from academy to 1st team, that can work with everyone, and the naughty Manager prevents this.
Truth is that young players should work their way up, by playing on loan, and once proved they can do it at a lower level, being given the chance.
After all, we have data to see this ourselves.
We have 2 young prospects out on loan, one is Pierrick, on loan at Kilmarnock in the Scottish prem, where he played 19 minutes in his first match, 62 in the second, and was benched for the 3rd and 4th and didn't play.
Scott Banks is on loan at Dunfermline, in Scottish championship, and played 22, 74 and 13 mins in his first 3 matches.
Now, I'm not saying they're poor, let's hope they're our future, but if their managers don't play them (or play them little) then we can surely say they're not ready for the Premier? Otherwise their managers would be fool not to play them...
Yet there's been turmoil in here because the manager didn't want to give them a chance...
