The worry for me is that we drop through the championship as well. It’s going to need a major overhaul whatever division we are in. Biggest disappointment for me is that we go down with nothing to show (silverware) for our longest stay in the premiership :-(

I certainly do NOT want us to be ploughing our furrow in the Championship. Leeds supporters were yearning for a return to the pinnacle for over 15 years, same for Nottm Forest supporters who have seen their team out of the top flight for over 20 years. One could list similar mindsets for supporters of other clubs in the division, desperate to see their team in the PL. One can spend a great deal of time in the lower divisions after plummeting through that relegation trapdoor. There is no guarantee of a quick return after a 'Reset' with the team playing more attractive high-octane football. I certainly don't wish to be at Selhurst Park gazing at rows of empty seats as we try and get back to the heights of yesteryear.

We stay up,Roy is offered a year extension for his efforts and nothing changes.Think a full ground support(hopefully) next season will soon be after his resignation as this absolute dross will continue with Roy at the helm.

I don’t want us to go down but at the same time don’t enjoy this paralysis of fear of going down which appears to cripple the mindset of many fans.

There's no good time to get relegated, but this would certainly be the worst of times. All clubs are suffering financially due to COVID and Palace haven't been exactly awash with cash these last few years. I see no positives in inviting relegation.

I think it has to be taken into consideration that with COVID and Brexit this is possibly the worst year to get relegated, as whatever the long-term future holds the short-term impact on the economy is going to be huge and potentially devastating. The PL has value, whereas the Championship really only appeals to those in it. If we can't rub two pennies together in the PL what hope would we have in the Championship? We'd lose the few players who are any good and literally have to start again with no money, no players and a stadium that is barely improved from when we got promoted. In all likelihood we'd struggle to survive getting relegated to league 1. The last season that I remember really enjoying in the second tier was probably 93/94.

There's nowt better than a 0-0 against PNE on a dark, rainy Monday night. Away. It cleanses the soul. I doubt we'd beat them right now with the squad we have.... ...but no thanks. Let's just clear out the dead / rotten wood. That involves spending and (IMO) ditching Dougie as well.

...having said that, by far my favourite ever season was our administration / relegation battle season in the Championship. Arriving at Newcastle to hear Victor Moses didn't take the flight. The desperate battles against Doncaster, Scunny, Sunderland. The epic finale. Football, and the very spirit of this club at it's very best. Really shows how complacent we've become. Maybe a spell in the "real football" division might be best?

Would Parish push on with stadium redevelopment if we did happen to go down is the pressing question.

I have no idea why, but the repetitive chanting of PNE is one of those football songs from opposing fans that I sometimes find myself singing in obscure moments.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |
