To all those who quote FFP as the reason for us not spending take note of this figure.

For those interested in the alternative assessment, I have posted the details of Brightons finances and compliance with FFP on the thread about the ultras and the banner.

Not stalking you on this BTW Coops!

Anyone who has been paying attention will know that the way to beat us is to a) move the ball faster b) try and draw us up the pitch to make use of our painfully slow defence. Brighton attempted to pass it through our defence in a ponderous fashion for much of the game and due to playing two tiny strikers in the first half couldn't put high crosses in the box. The decision to play four centre-backs also meant that on the two occasions we countered effectively we won the foot race and got the crosses in.

I like the way Potter has Brighton playing and if they can afford some better players it should pay dividends long term. Last night and in our previous encounter though he got his tactics wrong.

Bentenke now has more goals than Maupay this season which is very funny too

Brighton have spent £240m NET since 2015.

No way on earth.

According to this Brighton have the 11th highest net spend in Europe over the past 5 years (Palace are 28th).

I have often wondered how they get away with it. Is it the Stadium sponsorship?

My limited understanding is the debt has built up over the last 10 years so they pretty much stick to FFP rules but each year have been bankrolled and only made a profit in their first season up . They are now £279m in debt and lost £67m last season . [Link] . We are one of the few smaller clubs in the premier who are bankrolled which is why we make do and mend.

Because we already had players of the highest level in the squad. They came from nothing, so they had to spend to be competitive in the PL. Imagine that we didn't have Zaha. With thay buy alone, we would have spent nore than Brighton.

We spent a lot too, but we had sales as well(AWB comes to mind).

But Brighton will have a great financial future too, people who analyse finances know they promoted players who will be sold for a lot more (Trossard, Maupay, Connolly, McAllister, Lamptey, March, Dan Burn). They also have some very exciting loanees at a very young age (Gyokeres etc.)

The survived under Hughton for two years with pretty much the core of the squad that got them promoted, Bruno, Dunk, Duffy, Bong, Stephens, Knockheart, March and Murray. They added Propper, Gross and Ryan and a few others to the squad but they stayed up with them.
Since Potter has been there they have had some great result against good team beating spurs twice at home and Arsenal and Everton, but struggle against teams that defend. In two years they have only other wins at home have against Norwich and Bournemouth. You could see last night they spend so long working the ball into position that defences have time to regroup and get bodies back.
I agree to extent with you last paragraph, they have invested in younger potential with an eye on sell on value. Potter fits much more with Blooms model he wants to bring on the young players that Bloom analytical skills/team can scout, Hughton didnít play them so thatís way he went.
Trossard and Maupay cost near £40m and have at best held there value, Webster is similar. Lamptey and Bissouma look good but Connolly and Burn look championship, Connolly at least has time on his side.

I disagree. They have many chances. And ot only in this match, in most matches. They need a little better finishers.

Is it better to live by accidents like Benteke's goal? We win 3 poknts ouy of nothjng, but keeping this up.will surely mean relegation in 2 years, cause you can't fool football forevwr.

Meanwhile, Brighton keeping this up and getting a few bettwr finishers will rise in the league in 2 years and will even fight for Europa League spots. It's how a manager build mechanical football and tactics and the guarantee of wins in the long term.

But how many defence splitting passes was my point, at best 2 in the whole match. Brighton may rise but I suspect they will struggle to keep their best players, Bissouma and White will be off, if only to help finances.
I agree Palace need an overhaul to avoid relegation

Thank you. So can owners loan an infinite amount, surely not

You don't like Dan Burn? I think that for his height he is a wonderful player. I have never seen a human over 2 metres tall be so fast. Never

I very much doubt this.

Not according to Brighton fans. You have let yourself down in this thread with your bigging up Brighton. Potter has done no better than Hughton despite spending millions.

100% this. Brighton fans think Burn should be played as a winger! 6ft 7 that would be a first. His defending for winner was awful

He may be fast but he is not very good at defending
