I had heard about this and it sounded pretty ridiculous if you ask me. But looking at the article you've posted, thankfully it looks like Mr and Mrs Potatohead are both still around and unchanged. They've just rebranded the umbrella for the whole range as "potatohead".

Whilst there does seem to be a degree of craziness around regarding some PC proclamations, and not offending anyone, I think it is always worth going beyond the headlines and reading the story behind it. I am particularly wary of anything in our tabloid press where news like this is designed to rouse a froth of indignation which is quite often out of all proportion to what is actually happening, and is intended to pander to its perceived readership. I am reminded of the "Health & Safety gone mad" furore which gave us stories of all sorts of nanny-state lunacy, a lot of which wasn't actually true. But hey, what does that matter if it keeps your customers "happy".

Why don't they keep the name but change his pronouns like Eddie Izzard did - depending on how one perceives the potato at whatever point of the day you are dealing with it/him/her?
