Some great names already mentioned - I would have to add John Jackson, AJ & Jim Cannon to the list, Not necessarily the absolute greatest of all time but for sure (at least for me) the list wouldn't feel right without them included.

Going further back Peter Simpson must be in with a shout.
In later years he had a tobacconists in Croydon which some on here could well have visited in the 60s.

Blimey, just goes to show how tricky this is. Hadn't been aware of Simpson I'm ashamed to say, but quite a CV.

Everybody has a very valid shout for their star man - all of them made terrific contributions to the club in their time.

I went for Vince, but since I did I've regretted not naming Wright and Sansom who others have identified and who I remember watching with great pleasure. Especially Wright at Wembley.

Anyway, I'll stick with Vince as my favourite.

Only oldies like me (been supporter since 194
would unequivocally plump for the late, great Johnny Byrne.

It was a privilege to watch him weave his magic from the open spaces of Selhurst (just the one stand then)

And those of my era will always say that John Jackson
was our best keeper in living memory. Those were the days of leather balls, quagmire pitches and an anything goes attitude to keepers by opposing No.9s - it was brutal and none but the bravest would prevail.

Even when he moved on to Orient he was the bravest of the brave.

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find someone older than me.

He would be my second choice after Wilf.

Nice one. I don't clearly recall seeing Byrne in his pomp, but I watched him play when he came back for a while. Past his best really. My Dad used to wax lyrical though, always his favourite player.

Now John (Stonewall) Jackson I do remember seeing and he certainly was a cracking keeper. He came to a youth club event to answer questions from us kids. I got his autograph by handing him a programme but was too nervous to speak.

loved Don Rogers, kenny Samson, Ian Wright and Wilf too but for me Johnny Byrne is the greatest I've ever seen in a Palace shirt. consider that he played for England while in the3rd Div, unheard of toady and rare even then, ,when sold it was a British record transfer fee equivalent to Bale's record of 83 million now.

The best forwards Iíve seen are Wright and Johnson.
Beat winger Salako.
Beat attacking Ivorian winger Zaha.

Peter Taylor played for England whilst we were in the old 3rd division and he wasnít the best player I have seen in a Palace shirt.

On the topic of Budgie I thought I'd look on YouTube to see if there are any clips. Found a couple. Our game against Oldham in 1960 and one of him in an England shirt.

Always fascinating.
