I don't think I will ever be comfortable with his departure from Palace, coming far too early when he could have offered so much that we've desperately missed. Will be a long time until we see a 30+ goals per season player at Palace again.

There are some players who didn't have to be with us for that long for them to gain something of a legendary status.

For example, Don Rogers, with Palace barely a season and a half ; likewise Attilio Lombardo. Glenn Murray falls into that category.

Glenn's actual playing time at Palace, given the time he was out injured and then on loan, only amounted to about two and half seasons yet he is held in great esteem by just about every Palace fan. This affection was always demonstrated by the very warm reception he received whenever he played against us subsequent to his leaving - even when wearing the shirt of the Weeds.

It's amazing for me to read these tributes to Glenn Murray on here, particularly as somebody who was absolutely slaughtered on this site for condemning the decision to let him go.

Oh, what short memories CPFC fans have.

The reality is the vast majority of supporters were very excited about Glenn being replaced by the younger, freshly-tattooed and coiffed Connor Wickham.

He was too old, too slow, too balding for most fans on this site, who breathlessly championed the new Wickham-era while celebrating the departure of the clapped-out banger Glenn Murray.

Murray career goals since Wickham signed: 61

Wickham career goals since he signed : 13

Players CPFC signed to replace Murray's goals : Emmanuel Adebayor; Patrick Bamford; Christian Benteke; Loic Remy; Alex Sorloth; Jordan Ayew; Michy Batshuayi; Cenk Tosun; Jean Mateta.
