Lots of rookie mistakes, especially trying 4-4-2 when we had looked OK at 4-3-3 preseason, that was skinny on PV at Nice, and it showed on the pitch. It was a weak team for sure, but none of the players seemed to know what the game plan was either with or without the ball. The team had a better balance with the substitutions. Roy had a formula that he could tweak, boring/frustrating, yes, but he got the best out of a mediocre squad most days, because they were drilled. Unfortunately, there is only so much perfume or lipstick you can put on the pig! I hope PV and his team understand that transition requires pragmatism, learn from the mistakes and put out a team that can work together, share responsibilities and be individually accountable for their performance.

I would respectfully beg to differ. He has no Premier League experience at all and only one and a half seasons in Ligue 1. You may point to his time in the US, but I think few on here would, hand on heart, regard that as meaningful. So I don’t think deeming PV inexperienced was unfair; though I readily concede this is an entirely subjective appraisal and in any event was not intended as a criticism. Compared to RH virtually every manager in the league is inexperienced!
