All social media accounts require a verification of identity.

Users can opt to have their posts put up anonymously.

Users can opt to not receive anything from posters who have opted to post anonymously.

Of course not ideal but would mean that racist posts for example could only be seen from accounts that hd not opted for anonymity.

Likely most users would opt not to receive anything from anonymous users so there would only be a tiny audience for anonymous posts.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

Because some millionaire footballers got called a few rude names on Twitter? In a majority of messages from over-seas and even when taken as a total, were a minute % of football-related social media posts?

And why limit it to racism? What about posts that mock disabled people? Or Trans? Or any and everything else that people do not like?

Perhaps we should only be able to post positive messages? Encouraging each other?

For f*** sake. This is rapidly now become mass hysteria. And all because 3 professional footballers bottled taking penalities? And got called a few rude names in return on Twitter?

I agree , only using racism as an example. I am totally against anonymous social media bullying and abuse, no accountability

Which is all well and good but where do you draw the line?

So are we allowed to abuse and bully politicians? And who polices that? The social media companies? There was a recent case where a lady had her Twitter account suspended because she mocked the head of the Chinese Communist party.

That was bullying and abuse. Right?

I think it is essential that people should be allowed to post anomously in the current climate.
You have people hell bent on damaging people for having the 'wrong' opinions. They must be protected.

The fact that a tiny percentage of people abuse this is not grounds to do anything rash. This is a very small problem that is inflated by the media for their own purposes. Then we have politicians, Royals and celebs all lining up to appear virtuous on the back of it. As a result, we are expected to listen to the wisdom of footballers on the subject, emboldened by all the victim attention, and take it seriously, while having to endure the ridiculous sight of said footballers taking a knee for reasons that defy logic and risk ruining the sport.

Quite.

Based on their supposed principles I struggle to see how a single England player who took the knee will not be boycotting the 2022 world cup in Qatar. A nation that represents everything I guess they find reprensible.

For decades girls get raped by grooming gangs and both the media, institutions and the government want it kept quiet and even now when its raised look to minimise it.

Some millionaires get nasty tweets, some of which are probably hoaxed and we get massive calls for anonymity to be stripped from the Internet.

People could be forgiven for spotting a trend.

The Qatar World Cup is a scandal from beginning to end and no country should be playing there.
No one is protesting because the people that artifically create the environments that drive public perceptions are the same people who will be making money from the tournament.

One of the main identifiers of a virtue signaler is that the position taken doesn't cost them....or costs them less than not taking the position.

As soon as the situation changes where a stance does cost them more.....suddenly they find reasons to support the hypocrisy.

You see it with corporations, who are incredibly woke in the west but when it comes to dealing with China they will submit to them without issue..

China break pretty much all their 'progressive' ideas and they are willing to call people in the west Nazis who don't even come close to supporting what China do.....but not submitting to China would cost them.

It shows the underbelly of what these people truly are.

You see it with the football industry with Qatar and the world cup.

Money talks, bs walks.

Fair comment, although the OP wasn't suggesting that anonymity be stripped from the internet. The suggestion was a mechanism for choosing not to see posts from those who have chosen anonymity, which is a formal version of: "if you don't like it, don't read it".

Regarding verification of identity to set up a social media account; this wouldn't bother me, but I assume it would be a non-starter. Firstly, the task of obtaining ID from the hundreds of millions of existing users would be immense, and secondly the number of users would no doubt plummet. Furthermore, whereas the plod would no doubt be empowered to pursue accusations of hate crimes committed online by UK citizens or by citizens of countries with whom the UK has reciprocal arrangements, who would follow up on abuse issued from China, Russia, etc?

Yep sensible points.

To be fair to the OP my post wasn't in relation to his as I had only seen the last few posts in the thread.
