We seem to be making the right moves to be a successful maybe top ten, especially with the academy, however the key to me is the Stadium, build the new stand, increased revenue, and the future looks much brighter, stay as we are we will struggle long term

When you look at how much Everton had to spend to finish tenth last season, and they had Ancelotti at the helm, it shows the size of the task. For me it is not about position in the league (providing that position is outside the bottom three) it is about being competitive and providing some entertainment. If we take the German approach and look to attract the best young talent with a clear path to the first team then I think we have a bright future.

The idea of Wilf, Eze and Olise all in the same starting line-up will surely have created arousal even amongst the most prudish of supporters.

It seems that is exactly what we are doing.

Everton is a poor comparison. They have been spending unwisely for a long long time with little success; and Ancelotti - as good as her is - was, surprisingly, a poor fit.

West Ham and Leicester are non-top 6 sides who fared better. And neither of them are following the German model as we seem to be.

The club need to grit their teeth and persevere in the face of huge public backlash. Gelling youth and seeing the fruits of the academy play out in the first XI takes time. With the current culture of instant gratification, impatience will spill over very quickly.

Think we generally agree but not sure WH or Leicester stack up either as a comparison.

West Ham have one season really - there is generally a bottom half club that come good for a season. They could easily be down to 13th 14th next time. Nothing intrinsically strong in their set up.

Leicester are a top 5 club nowadays - only public perception puts them behind Spurs and Arsenal. They have bought and sold brilliantly for a number of years now.

it's possible but we need a heck of a lot to go right, some of that will be outside of our control.

This will be a transitional season. I'd expect us to finish this season in the 13-16 bracket, however with a massive step-change in how we approach football i.e. the pursuit of betterment rather than mere survival.

I would also expect that if Vieira really nails our new football philosophy, we can attract more talent to the project, going into the 22-23 season, without having to pay mercenaries to do us a favour.

I'm also really excited to see how we approach cup competitions. Like, to actually aim to progress through them and get to a final.

No doubt there is quality. Guehi looks to be a decent signing. Olise when he is fit could have a similar impact like Eze.

Having players like Eze, Olise, Benteke means goals and assists can come from other areas rather than just relying on Zaha. However, I still think Palace do need at least three more signings.

Definitely a striker to make compete with Benteke (someone like Adam Armstrong could be a good signing and is a realistic option.) Another creative player/winger is required Matheus Pereira would be perfect knows the Premiership can score and assist.

An attacking midfielder maybe e.g. Someone like Loftus Cheek. Left back should be okay Mitchell and Hannam could both do well at that role.

Do you think top 10 is a possibility currently? How many more signings and who do you think would be ideal to make this possible?

We need a minmum of three more defenders.

What does success look like ?
We are in a period of transition & I would guess if you asked the board, PV & the supporters that question it would probably raise some interesting answers -

Year 1 - Suggestions -
Finish somewhere between 10 - 16 in the league ?
Lower the average age of the team / squad by .... years ?
Reduce the team / squad salary by .... % age
A cup run ?
Confirm the pathway from Academy to first team (by actually making it happen for .... players)
Encourage new investment ?
Play more attacking football?
New stand development ?

Year 2 -
( Obviously year 2 targets really depend on how successful we were in Year 1)

Any thoughts ?

Yes we can, however all the clubs we are aiming to scramble above will think that they can too, and will be throwing similar cash at "exciting new signings". What they DON'T have in reserve, though, is Jacob Montes. Actually, I'm not sure that WE have him in reserve either!

Oops - Jacob, not Jason. Now corrected.

People seem to be forgetting that and are looking for instant success.

If we stay out of trouble and play attractive football it should provide the building blocks for next year when we can build on this year's squad

top ten ? yeah sure, but not in this league.

What a moronic statement, FFS

The No. 1 priority this season remains staying in the PL. It is looking like we plan to play a more watchable style of football but unless we stay in the PL, the Project will be endangered.

I shall be happy if we can steer clear of the bottom 3 for most of the season (our difficult start might see us struggling early doors, but I think that PV is a winner and a positive encourager and will be able to keep our noses above the drop).

I'm looking forward to seeing our new signings in action and hope to see a couple of our own Academy players given reasonable outings this season.

As for becoming an established top 10 side, I'll settle for becoming an established PL side with occasional top 10 finishes and sorties into Europe and one FA Cup win before I die (I'm 70).

I may have been being a touch ironic by mentioning Mr Montes.
