Have a look at Samsung. They have some pretty good ones in that price range.

According to Which magazine the best TV's are made by Samsung and LG try one of them.

NB Which said you can't get a decent TV under 35" the manufacturers aren't putting any effort into that so look for 35-50" range.

If you're not fussed about the latest model (i.e. last week's one will do) have a look at Richer Sounds - they usually have some great deals (and warranty)

Which magazine talks about this. Apparently September / October is a good time to buy because that is when this year's model comes out so they discount last years.

My TV is now old when I bought it 3D was all the rage as I can't see 3D it was pointless so I saved myself £500 by buying the last year's model and 3D of course when the way of the dinosaurs I wonder how many people who bought those got value for money.

Tv"s are cheap as chips compared to yesteryear, a bit like travel. I was buying a great tv in currys years ago, last of the line and reduced, got it for about £400 when they were about £800 at the time, the sales assistant said, "before you buy it, can I show you another tv, just to see the difference in picture?"He led me to the latest model, £1200, same size, and stood back looking, then said "what do you think of that? see the difference, the sharpness"? I said "to be honest, i can"t tell the difference, only that I could buy 3 of mine for one of these"!

Currys are hopeless at setting up TVs as invariably they are much too bright if connected to Sky.

The more expensive TVs tend to be displayed connected to a hard drive which is showing carefully selected videos.

When I bought my last TV the hard drive was showing a section of our cup final against Man U

Funny you say that, as John Lewis was always showing that semi final to!

Did it have a different result to persuade you to buy it?

I have two Panny's, a 58" and 40" of the same model.
I also have a Sammy, but that has an awful remote, whereas the Panny can be used blindfold. Well almost.

Some manufacturers also provide a second, simplified remote for major controls.

For what it's worth, I always select brands by the remote first, then view the shortlisted models from there.
