I echo using adblock. You can never be too careful and it's part of my effort to avoid viruses and the like. Not as though any would come from here though, and exceptions can be made so that certain sites can be supported. I've never had this Malta ad issue or any other, so no need for Adblock on HOL so far!

Download and install Firefox Focus from the App Store (not the full blown Firefox). In the settings of FF, tick “Safari integration “. In iPad settings for Safari, enable FF as your ad blocker. This blocks most ads and also has a whitelist where you can exclude your favourite sites (e.g HOL!) Hope that helps. PS Lionz is another adblocker that works well with Safari.
