How anyone can find positives in Wickham’s Palace career is beyond me. Have to agree. His wonder kids days were over at Sunderland and he was often played on the left wing, so we knew what we were getting. The fact he replaced an ageing Murray who continued performing for another 3 or so years in the Prem doesn't show Pardew in a good light. The ACL injury was clearly unfortunate but his injury record beforehand was pretty poor too - how many calf injuries can 1 person get? He had a few good games for Palace and at times looked a really good player but injuries and inconsistency summed up his Palace career. SP offering him a 1 year extension in 2020 (even in reduced terms) was clearly madness and it was proved so. Good luck to the bloke - a decent Champ player when fit.

Wickham had barely kicked a ball in 3 years so to reward him with a new contract was illogical. There have been a few others over time - Paddy Mac and Jonny Williams spring to mind.

I suspect, he might have known that there is a decent player in there, and was worth a gamble. The medical team would have an input surely. Plus we are hardly blessed in the striker department, and giving Connor another year is cheaper than having to go out and buy another.

Clearly I wish him all the best in the move but, let's be honest, he is arguably our worst ever transfer. £60,000 a week for five seasons plus his £8m signing fee cost us, what, £22/23 million? And for that we got 50 appearance and 11 goals. 24 appearances and 6 goals came in his first season! Giving him a new contract (before immediately loaning him out when we had no strikers) remains one of our more ridiculous decisions. Genuinely hope he overcomes his injuries and enjoys the rest of his career but I am just so glad we have seemingly changed our transfer strategy from veterans and injury risks now.
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold... |

I remember his first two games Norwich away the 3 1 win and the 2 1 defeat against Arsenal I thought we had a real player on our hands he looked great it’s a shame that his body wasn’t up to top flight football good luck Conor and thanks for the semi final
walking down the holmesdale road to see the palace aces! |

Presumably insurance covered a lot of the cost?
