We might all need to take a crash course with this guy to ensure there's a sustainable future ahead. He comes across like a genius hobbit. Joking aside though it's absolutely incredible what people are able to do...I wouldn't know where to start!

Just goes to show what you can do if you don"t involve bureaucracy mate, that place looks comfortable as anywhere, lets hope the council and gov don"t come knocking for this certificate, this test, this tax, he needs to build a moat and stock it with crocs!

Yes, lots of bin men have been "headhunted", leading to bin collections extended from 2 to 3 weeks around the country,. this has been going on for weeks. Still, on the plus side, if theres no food in the shops, no toys at christmas, there wont be much to put in the bin! The council could make the 3 week collection permenant, whats not to like?

Better

In our local Waitrose yesterday there were a number of empty shelves including a complete absence of loo rolls.

Signs were in evidence asking customers to be patient during the current difficulties caused by delivery problems (I can't remember the exact wording).

According to a staff member I chatted to, the Co2 and delivery shortages are being exacerbated by folk panic buying again. What is it with this desperation for loo rolls whenever there's a supply issue?

Anyway, this Co2 issue does appear to be causing problems in all sorts of areas (not least in the brewing industry) and the doom mongers are already forecasting a miserable Christmas.

Look out lads, just when we thought things were looking up too..........

The question is why is the UK the victim of HGV driver shortages of a completely different level to those in Europe? There is no shortage of CO2 elsewhere in the world and why are wholesale gas prices three times those in France, Germany, Spain etc.?

I don't recall reading anything that highlighted the shortage of HGV drivers pre-brexit.

Actually Biden & his administration hold the British with contempt. Trump however didn't. Still at least we don't get any mean Tweets anymore. Still only 3.5 years to get rid of this bent administration & Biden will be got sooner.

Not so sure about Biden going early Jim, but if he hands over to Harris I know she will have your full support!

Letís just say the lorry driver issue is ALL down to brexit. It is this sort of thing and it looks like only this sort of thing that gets either of the main parties to sit up and take notice of where weíre heading by constantly importing cheap labour and not training and paying our own properly and with good working conditions. Iíve heard these are the reasons that EU workers are in the jobs and our own citizens are not. Therefore Brexit always can be an opportunity to correct things, and you could say the reliance on a false valuation of the labour in lorry driving is the reason, and importing cheap labour is just a patch up job that makes the situation worse the longer you ignore it. A bit of pain (missing out on your favourite food items or just brands) will be worth it if they actually do address the faults theyíve just ignored for so long.

I'm assuming I've missed the joke here. You are joking yes? Sorry if it's a whoosh...

Indeed it's not a case of cheap labour from Europe, it's labour from Europe. HGV drivers are relatively well paid. Despite the fact that we have unemployed people in the UK there is a shortage of people with specific skills in many areas. Fruit pickers, (yes they are skilled), NHS staff, etc are all required. The fact that the government took no steps to train people to do this work over the past decade can only be explained by incompetence and arrogance.
