It's worthy what their attempting; He's not Clerk Kent anymore, so a White middle aged hetrosexual male is probably a missed opportunity to update the Superman image to something a little more Modern.
Personally though I agree with Dean Cain; Top BandWagon riding by DC there. But as the son of Clerk Kent and Lois Lane, they've few options other than go LGBT.

Logically some superheroes would be gay or bisexual, so it would be accurate to say that politics has prevented that for many decades, not simply pushed it now. I tend to agree with Dean Cain in his Fox News appearance though, in that for the character to be realistic he would likely be fighting injustices against gay people in Iran rather than refugee storylines back home. That would be the bold move, this would've been 15 years back but now so much now.
