He said something in the post match interview about having players (specifically Gallagher) willing and able to link up with. I think he's just revitalised and re-motivated. The standard of our attacking ability has finally raised to meet his standard, and it's challenging him to be better.

Watching Newcastle, with their deep defence (and still conceding three) reminded me of us last season. A midfield and defence pass it sideways, and slowly backwards, eventually reaching the keeper who can only hoof it, as there's nowhere else to go. And Allan Saint-Maximin does his best to reach a ball he'll never get, chasing heroically, but with utter futility. Instead the opposition casually win it back, with 19 outfield players in the opposition half, and their cycle of dominance starts again. The defensive team have to work so hard, to get so little, and any success is reliant on genius.

For Saint-Maximin, read Zaha, who did this for years. He's not had this much fun since Bolasie was here.

I thought exactly he same when watch the Newcastle analysis. Having CBs that are calm on the ball makes such a difference.

Watched the whole game last night, that was the best defensive display so far from back to front. I couldn’t tell who the City fans were booing, definitely Guita though as he took his time with distributing the ball from goal kicks. Although he did bowl it out pretty quickly on each occasion to our defenders.

I used to think City fans were pretty decent bunch especially when they were struggling in Division 1, but since the money men came in they have turned into an entitled bunch who don’t back their team when they are losing.

What’s more they pretty much all f***ed off with 15 minutes to go, what s*** house support they have turned into!

My best mate is a city fan, ex season ticket holder who basically stopped going a couple of years back because it got 'boring'. Expecting to batter every team you play is a bit of a poisoned chalice. When the expectations are so high, its only winning the league or the CL that gives you a buzz

Exactly.

One of my favourite comments came from a Scouser after Liverpool got stuffed at home by Manchester United many years ago. The radio host pointed out that the home fans had left early in their droves.

Fan "yeah but you don't know what's like to get stuffed at home by your hated rivals it's horrible".

Err actually real football fans do know, we've all been there which is why the victories are all the more sweeter.

I take it you didn't go to the 1995 League Cup tie v City at Selhurst then? The City fans were so poorly behaved during their team's 4-0 defeat that Palace fans sang to them "You're the sh!t of Manchester!" (to the tune of 'Bread of Heaven'). Given who the other major Manchester team is, that was quite an indictment!!

Yes I was there in the Arthur Wait that night and they were poor. Think they lost their soul when they left Main road, because that was a great stadium.

When was Wilf left out? Presumably you mean when he was ill having returned from International duty

He was on the bench after missing one game through illness,which I think PV was proving a point.

It's critical for the way PV wants us to play. That's why it's so important that Andersen and Guehi stay fit. none of our other CBs have that level of calmness or quality on the ball. in an ideal world we'd have a third CB of that calibre.

But back to Saturday's game, I too watched the full match with 20/20 vision. what a defensive performance by the whole team!

We do have a real topsy-turvey recent record against the two Manchester teams.

Since beginning of the 2018/19 season it's
Home = W 0 D 1 L 5
Away = W 4 D 2 L 1

Weird!

I thought PV said he wasn’t quite ready to start following illness. All down to interpretation I suppose

I'm not sure he was dropped either. He was ill!

9 starts one sub appearance

Not bad stats thus far, although he needs 12 goals this year.
