As an animal lover and previous owner of dogs and now cats, I can’t stand the things. personally I’d like to put a rocket up the back side of anyone letting off fireworks, but I suppose I should live and let live

Bonfires and fireworks, all in the name of 'tradition' at this time of year. but look at all the other stuff that goes on with New Year,

In Sussex it's a big thing for all the towns and villages. In my limited experience it also gave adult bonfire audiences the excuse for arriving at an event totally pi5hed and throwing their own fireworks around, endangering property, livestock, pets, and people.

Then you've also got the NI bonfire groups there.

Aside from the global-warming stuff, they should be stopped because it encourages some adults to behave like morons.

I have found that other people letting off fireworks is a good time for bonding with pets. Stay indoors with them, do not show fear, ensure they have food and drink available, and you will be rewarded.

Might not be a celebration of the Gunpowder Plot. Think Divali - the Hindu Festival of Light, which is early November.

The gunpowder plot isn’t celebrated. It’s the foiling of the plot and that our democracy survived that is celebrated hence why a guy is burnt.

And I’m sure that Duvali was a week or two ago.

It's not uncommon for Diwali fireworks go on for at least a week.

They should be banned from sale to the public. They seem to be let off all year round for any reason whatsoever. Whether it's someones birthday or they had a baby or any other spurious 'event' is no reason for fireworks. For specific events, New Years Eve, Guy Fawkes Night, etc. how about donating the £100 odd quid (or whatever is spent these days on a lame back garden attempt) into a fund by an organised display team. Imagine the display then if the public also donated to the existing planned events.

Where I live it's always the chavs living in the current social housing or the former council houses that let off fireworks in the days on or around November 5th. The same people who will be bleating about a cost of living crisis and expecting the authorities to throw endless amounts of money at them and to teach their children to read, use cutlery and even how go to the toilet.
