We are definitely in the relegation scrap and the games will remain enjoyable only if we are not relegated!

What a load of bollix, we're far from in a relegation scrap. I don't know why some people bother following Palace

If we maintain our current ratios (Win 20% Draw 47%), over the 38 games then we should manage 41 points which should be enough to guarantee survival for another year. All this of course supposes we do not have any serious injuries as this may upset the balance and there is certainly no room for any more errors or bad performances. I do also think we have to be realistic about what we can realistically achieve under the current ownership, it certainly is not a top four finish as some suggest. We will never have the investment or funds that are made available to the top six clubs in this league where in most cases their bench and squad players would probably be worth more than our whole collective 25 man squad. We have to also be realistic about the academy and the U23 squad both are great to have but they will not supply the quality players in sufficient numbers to guarantee our survival in the PL so will always be reliable on having a good scouting system that can pick up quality players at the right price. I'm more than happy that we develop in to a safe mid table PL team so that the club can get the revenue its needs to improve our ground and team even if at times the football has to be boring to avoid relegation.

So more or less what we have been for the last few years. The difference being an unproven manager.

If you look at the League at the moment, I would say that from where we are in 14th., all the clubs are more or less in the same boat as us in the battle to stay up. It's going to be a tight one this season.

In terms of revenue, that was another motivation behind the Academy development. We aren't going to emulate Chelsea overnight, but look at income they generate from their production line. Now that the development is nearly finished, the next vital revenue stream is getting that new stand built.

I wasn't getting carried away a few weeks ago when results and performances were better, and I'm not all doom and gloom because we've lost 3 consecutive games. If we don't get a decent points return from the next 3 games, then I think we have a problem. The team needs to start to grind results out, they haven't managed that this season with the possible exception of West Ham.

I think we'll be ok, but I don't see us finishing top half.

This 'unproven manager' is trying to get us to play more, have more possession, look far more watchable. Wasn't that our biggest gripe with Hodgson?
I'm more than happy to accept 8-14th and a cup run over the next few seasons if it means achieving Academy development and a new stand.

its simple look at the maths, Burnley win their game in hand and we lose to Everton then there will be just three points between us and the relegation spot!

Yes, PV has introduced a far more palatable watch than Hodgson did.

But it's a results business.

I keep saying it, but we are still in a transitional phase. The challenge is to deliver points while still developing the playing style.

Should have 20 points by the end of the year which should translate to 40+ and safety by the end of the season.

From what I have seen of us this year our current points tally is probably the worst it could have been. We do need to grind more results out but we will soon get the injured players back and Eze firing again and we could have a very strong second half to the season.

And if we win against Everton, we could be 11th
beat soton and watford and we should be top ten.i have no idea at this moment in time how we're going to do, but I'd like to think we're capable of picking up a decent number of points from those 3 games. I'm certainly looking up and not down.

The eve of a key game is most probably a good time to take stock. I feel we are in an ok position considering the changes that have been made. We most probably could have been in a higher position, but we failed to take advantage of the winning or drawing situations we were in, in certain games.

Let’s be conservative and say we have dropped 7points which we should have taken. We were not outplayed or undeserving of the points, we lost them due to mistakes. That’s all mistakes, cut those out and we can easily make the top 10.

We are definitely in a better place now and big Patrick will take us onto greater things, I’m confident of that.

We are definitely in the discussion for relegation, whether people want to admit it or not.

One important point is there aren't 3 obvious relegation teams this year. Even Norwich is looking decent lately. They looked much better against ManU than we did. And, we've been spoiled, because in past seasons, 40 points was easily enough to stay up. It's entirely possible that 40 points will not be enough this season.

We played our best football early in the season, and we lost a bunch of points at the very end of matches. We could/should have had 4-6 more points than we have. Ok, fair enough, but now the problem is we are playing poorly, and losing often.

So we're "on pace" for 41 points, but we're also looking worse every week. That isn't a great argument that we are on our way to safety. And we're pretty much level with terrible teams like Watford, Leeds, and Southampton.

Rome wasn’t built in a day.
The brand spanking new academy is not even finished yet. Already we have 2 youth teams in the top 6 of their divisions regularly beating the top teams. Our catchment area is almost like discovering a really rich oil field and putting the very latest drilling platform slap bang in the middle of it. Even Man Utd are trying to pinch our junior scouting team.
Once the fruits of this mature (imminent) we should see 30-40% of our squad as home grown. Far more than all the top teams. The talent at U 18 level is exceptional.
We have a new unproven manager with one of the best football brains and historic talent on the planet backed up by a very exciting coaching team albeit with no premier experience other than the keeper coach
We need two or three new players but which club doesn’t. Once our mature top men are back I’m confident our exciting start will be restoredk. We need to overcome last minute jitters which have cost us 6 points so far. We also need far more clinical finishing which must be our biggest concern re current squad players. We also need more potency when we are within range. Pulling the trigger more often. It’s work in progress.
This season we should be good for mid table. From then on we should be good to maintain that based on what we already have with a couple more buys.
Depending on the positive development of the club and players we may even make top 10 over the next couple of seasons.
West Ham are a good example if you get it right. Their U 23 are top of the league at the moment (who we gave a good game to but lost) and if their seniors were not top 6 you would expect to see some of them make the squad.
Our academy is punching way above our current weight. Creating that jewel was a very shrewd move.

We need points from today and Wednesday for sure as much for team confidence as anything.
As always we need to beat the team's around us when playing at home.
Here's hoping!
