Not enough quality for me to be consistently contributing in the Premier League.

Impossible to say considering the time he's been on the pitch along with our observation.

Would you have written this if his overhead had gone in?

I'm still not convinced by him.

Having said that, a week ago I had written him off completely.

For me it boils down to this ;

Can we afford to spend £13m on a player that may not get a starting place ?
Has he improved sufficiently under PV's coaching to make signing him worth a punt ?
Would releasing him enable Palace to buy a better replacement ?

I still don't see him doing it consistently as a starter at this level. I'd love him to prove me wrong.

I would keep him , i think he offers more than Benteke . He hasnt really been given a chance to prove himself . He is faster than Ben , if he could head the ball he would be the complete package . Played well last night .

Instinctive 'One-touch' finisher who has scored such goals with both feet.Tall as a hop-pole but not that good with his head - this was mentioned to me when he signed. Not good at holding the ball up.

Some stats relating to his time at Mainz :

The opposite of what we require, which is a Ian Wright, Andy Johnson, Kevin Phillips type of player to complement Edouard in PV's high press game.

Benteke suffers from clumsyitis so is never going to be the sort of player we all want to see in regards to anticipation and movement so we need to stop moaning about him not being this player, he has though shown that he can be a nuisance and could easily have scored last night if any of his shots hadn't been directly at Fabianski.

Mateta appears very able.

He sure can, mainly to his own team

Every single club in the world would love an in form Wright, Johnson or Phillips sort of player!

Yes, and Borja Mayoral is that player.

Mateta is also only 23.

Tekkers is 31.

So years of growth there, he reminds me of Dion Dublin I always preferred a battering ram type of entre forward.

Dublin was excellent in the air, one of the best in the PL at that time.He was also excellent at holding the ball up.Alas Mateta's strengths don't match those of Dublin's in these areas.
Dublin was certainly a "Battering ram" often just muscling defenders out of the way.
He is now a director of Camb Utd, a club where he made his league debut after joining from Norwich where he was deployed as a central defender!
