He’s made mistakes and we’re a bit iffy at the back, but the fact that he’s not Roy and we’re at least trying to play a more attractive style and trying to push forward makes Vieira good enough for me I’m enjoying the games again, however they turn out

He is doing a good job. He has not had a full pre-season or full summer transfer window. Our play is far more entertaining & there are goals in this team. We have picked up points in games this season which would have been lost last season. There have been few games which we have not been in.
He is also working with players & a squad which are not all his players. Hopefully he will by now have seen the error of his ways in starting games with Luka who, along with Ward and Guita (turned 35 this week) will hopefully be upgraded soon.
Kelly & Reidewald are players who both it seems, surplus to requirements & will hopefully also be upgraded or whose departures will allow the blooding of some of our exciting young talent.
We could well be at the start of something far more positive & hopeful along as he is not poached.

We must of lost points that we gained last season, as our points total after 20 games this season is exactly the same as last season.
Changing the style of football a club plays is not an easy task, according to many pundits. We are still in a transition period and far from the finishing article. So far Vieira is doing ok, nobody in their right mind didnt expect some mistakes.
Endless criticism of team selection, formation and substitutes is pointless, as Vieira is dealing with the deck of cards, he has been given. Of course he would like better and more gifted players, but thats not where we are as a club right now.

Pluses, He can attract players that other Managers cant, and he has instant respect from his players

Minuses, He is very raw to the Job, and in my opinion has made a lot of selection and Substitution errors

Discuss

Whatever shortcomings result from the supposed minuses are more than compensated for by the pluses.

He has my 100% confidence and support.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Agreed.

New managers are bound to make mistakes as they learn about the players and what they can and can't do.

A bad manager is one who doesn't understand that he made a mistake and keeps doing it. So far I have not seen that from PV so as long as he doesn't repeat those errors he has my support.

One more point

I think that the assessment of most posts is spot on, i am glad Derry is on the bench more, to add a little more experience of the club

I feel as though I expect more from Vieira and that we should be winning every game but perhaps that’s unrealistic.

Taking on an ageing Hodgson team (not a dig btw) with comparatively limited funds in the premier league I feared it was a poisoned chalice. PV has managed to take that team, which has quite consistently threatened a relegation battle over the seasons, and managed to instil a relatively less anxious feeling in this fan whilst producing a more ambitious style of football (in my opinion).

For me he’s far exceeded my initial expectations and looks set to guarantee PL football for next season and all whilst still managing a transition I’ve heard many a fan cry out for.

The only negative of course is that he may well be poached by a ‘bigger’ team but if not, and he does stay, the future once again just for this fan, does seem a lot brighter than years past. COYP 🔴🔵🦅

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Entirely agree. What’s the option? A rubbish manager who no one wants? This is the reality of football - if a “smaller” club have a 20 a season striker we can be in with a good shout of taking him away but by the same token “bigger” clubs can just take whoever they want from us. How do we resolve the problem? No idea. Leicester have had great success but they’ll have a problem in trying to sign a player who has the option of going to Liverpool, Man U, City, Chelsea etc.

Spot on. We may not be Chelsea or man City but compared to how Roy played we look like real Madrid.

Yup and the pundits at Brighton said the same about how quickly we've gone from a defensive team to what I would say is a trying to attack team. Well done Patrick.

I think the greatest challenge to a new manager is blending veteran and new players, old and young, when you don't really know either group very well. For this reason alone I think he has done a superlative job.

In terms of results, even given a significant upgrade in quality since Roy left, who on this board would have turned down our current point total and place in the table, if the offer was made in August?

I'm normally having the fear of possible relegation at the back of my mind each season. My concern now is we may miss out on top ten.

That shows our continuing improvement in my book.
