Even though the penalty was wrongly awarded it seems odd that Friend is the one blamed while Pawson who challenged the original decision not to give it escapes censure.

You’re right, It was pawson who put friend under pressure. Friend obviously knew once a ref is called to the screen they always change their mind. He probably thought he’d be in the s*** if he DIDN’T

There is now so much money at stake in football that it can’t be long until clubs start to look for some form of redress over these decisions. Imagine if a team got relegated after Liverpool’s second goal; no subjectivity involved just a clear and obvious infringement which VAR ignores.

I found it interesting that the clip shown to Friend only shows the contact it does not show Jota running into the box, looking at Guaita and adjusting his run to take him into the keeper. In other words, the contact has been taken out of context with the overall play, almost as if they were searching for something to make it look like a penalty.

Shocking, truly shocking officiating by the VAR official and then Friend for being sucked in.

Penalty aside . They were both very bad officalls on the day and from kick off , no way were they going to let Palace have a fair game . They should both be sacked from their job .

If anyone’s watching Liverpool v Cardiff, Cardiff have just been denied a pretty decent shout for a penalty. Makes you wonder doesn’t it?

100% this. There will always be tough calls, but this wasn't one of them. Looks bad for all concerned.

Also probable that had the Cardiff goalkeeper fouled a Liverpool player like the Scouse one just did that he’d have got more than a yellow card.

Was thinking that myself. It's often less what happens, and more who it happens to.

Or in this case the fact that he didn’t catch the Cardiff man higher (or lower…or something) on the leg.
