Just watched the Wilf pen incident again. Looks 100% to me and I cannot believe that VAR dismissed it so quickly.

If your correct then the one against us for handball was the same, so it evens itself out!

That was as poor a game I've seen at Premier Level.

Plenty of effort from both sides but a real lack of quality.

We played our best football when Jimmy Mac came on.

I think Palace have two inherent problems at the moment when it comes to the possession based game.

Firstly, we don't move the ball quickly enough on the right side. I love Joel Ward, and overall he's had a better season than I thought he would playing the way we do. But his distribution has never been his strong point. Introduce Ayew into the equation, a player that likes to have the ball at his feet and doesn't look to move it on at pace, and everything slows down.

On the other flank, we have a terrific defender in Tyrick Mitchell who is also capable of finding space going forward. But....he seems incapable of taking players on. Too often his involvement will result in a short backwards pass, losing any momentum built up.

Having established the style he wants to play, the next step for PV is to be provided with the players that can best perform it. That is still very much work in progress.

Yes, I thought the Andersen pen call could have gone the other way, and was worried that VAR looked at it for quite a long time. But why was the pen call for the foul on Wilf at the end dismissed so quickly? It was far more of a pen than the notorious Liverpool pen that Friend and Lawson gave. They looked at the incident about 20 times before giving it. Surely the Wilf incident was worth more than cursory look? It was certainly one of those that would have been given as a foul anywhere else on the pitch. Maybe the ref was so p*ssed off with Wilf's moaning previously that he wasn't going to give him anything in the area, no matter how blatant.

As summed up on MotD VAR decisions more interesting than all of the on field action. We seem to be struggling up top at the moment unlike similar teams to us such as Southampton and the Weed. They both seemed to be moving the ball much quicker than us yesterday. PV hinted at this after the match so let's hope for an improvement, otherwise I cannot see us above 15th come the end of the season. COYP !!

Very mediocre and not a good advertisement for the PL.

We looked ponderous on occasions, with a lack of quality in the final third so chances were at a premium.
Other teams yesterday,Everton and Southampton, displayed a real intensity and energy, suffice to say we did not show such aggression against a Brentford team who went into the game on the back of 6 defeats.

Zaha was very mediocre, no real threat at all and in my humble opinion it was not a penalty when he went down under challenge from Henry.

It would appear that the early season optimism amongst supporters is dissipating but I have believed that with the changes in management and players there would be 'Bumps in the road' on our journey.

Agree with much of this.
We appear to wish to play with a Man City type of 433 with one holding midfield player (they use Rodri or Fernandinho) and use a possession based game to create openings for a fluid forward line.
This is an admirable objective but we don’t at the moment have the quality of the player or play at the requisite pace to make it work.
Their system also requires the player to sacrifice himself for the team and play the right pass rather than have the eye catching showboating moment.
Players like Mcarthur and Hughes play early first time passes and Olise clearly has the talent to play the right weight of pass to suit this method.
I’m not sure this system suits the like of Zaha, Schlupp and Ayew though, and then there are the likes of Kouyate and Ward who are probably not capable of playing this way.
The conundrum is whether to change the system to suit the players we have, or to get players to suit the system.
We have started the process with the purchase of ball playing centre backs, but it would surely prove too expensive to buy midfielders and forwards to fit this template as well.
I just hope we don’t get caught between the two as we appear to be at the moment I.e lots of possession without pace or purpose and very poor decision making in the final third.

Face it - Wilf does not get penalty decisions because he goes down like a sack of spuds as soon as he is touched, and has spent his whole career moaning at referees.

Brentford are about level with us in the league, and both games between the two have been drawn - that is our standard, yes we have some better players, and some worse.

If you expect more, perhaps you should be supporting Chelsea or Man City. They buy fabulous players, loan out all their home grown talent, and win everything. If that is for you, then I wish you well.

From the general thrust of the comments and relating to how the style of play has "developed" as the season has worn on, it seems to me that we look closer to a Roy team than the team that started with such enthusiasm. I never thought I would say such a thing, but there it is, currently we have no vitality or energy going forward and pass from side to side more for the sake of it than creating something. We've become entirely predictable.
I really was hoping for some continuing sign of progression but at the moment we seem to be going backwards, or side to side.

These comments mirror those from supporters whom I have engaged in conversation and what I have overheard from those whose early season optimism has dissipated.

Not sure about the ethics of it, but I thought it was a very nice gesture for Brentford to offer to pay half of Ayew’s wages this week after his contributions in the game! 🤔

After 2 poor performances whereby we created next to nothing, is it time to drop the 4-3-3? Would like to see us with two up top. We seemed more of a threat against Liverpool when we had Mateta & Edouard up front together.

PV seems intent to sticking to the same tactics with different players but it seems to have gone stale

It Seems to me it's perfectly normal .. We started the season playing completely differently to what we're used To - and what our opposition are used to.. It's only natural that we go though a slightly more laboured period where we start to run out of ideas and the opposition has begun to work out how to stop us. As a group of players we haven't been playing this way for very long, so are learning what we need to do to get out of it. These things take experience and guidance. Hopefully PV and his team can deliver this.

From here we can either change tack slightly to keep us and the oppo on their toes, or do what we are doing more effectively - which requires faster transitions between the defence and attack - as a team and not as a bunch of individuals.

"It was a Team effort, I guess it took all players working together to lose this one"
