I think PV was bound to make positive noises about giving youngsters a chance, but what else was he going to say? "No, they don't stand much chance" ? Managers want to win every game, and us fans want the same. The board want us to finish as high up the table as possible as there is more cash the higher you finish. Consequently, with a pretty strong squad, and to date, relatively few injuries this season, it is unlikely risks are going to be taken blooding youngsters. Hodgson made very similar noises last year but Mitchell was the only academy player to graduate to senior level, and that was down to injuries.

I think we will have a slightly different team on Sunday, with getting ready for the SF in mind, chance to blood some youngsters and get Butland back in for match practice ahead of the SF.

There's a lot to be said for momentum and at present we have it. It's not something to be risked to blood a couple of youngsters. I expect to see the same starting XI as we had on Monday.
