It's a bit like Jason Donovan and Kylie going back to Neighbours for the last episode where it all started

Roy did well for us and put us on a stable footing but he was to set in his ways to take us to another level, but I wish him well

I really like Roy and I really like Vieira. Their approaches are different, but so are the players in their squad. PV's approach wouldn't have worked with the players Roy managed, and Roy's approach, well, it's hard to say how it would work with the current group.

Gallagher, Olise, an experienced Mitchell, Mateta, Guehi, Andersen, and... Clyne & Eze in the mix... Apples and oranges.

Roy deserves our respect on Saturday.

Roy deserves Respect we were never a Man City or Real Madrid , he kept us in the Prem for years, not pretty but with an older squad we survived, now have a great chance to move forward. Just be thankful and appreciate what he did as at the time we were in the SH1*. Many thanks Roy. Hope he learns and and enjoys how to retire. I did and have, never want to work again there are better ways to waste your life. But if you need to enjoy.

There’ are a lot of palace who fail to recognise the plan and bigger picture of our stay in the prem.

This has been done to death especially at the end of last season.

Roy, enabled and allowed us to be where we are today. He is absolutely key to the fact that this season we could build on our successes of maintaining prem status with players who know the league, know the little nuances of how to survive and innately are at the level as a team who would finish mid-table.

He kept us in the prem, safe pair of hands, didn’t need to spend a whole lot of money whilst Parish the club management could develop our infrastructure.

The club had a clear plan, to run down contracts and bring in a younger manager to deliver upon the clubs ‘Vision’ for the future of lowering the average age of the squad.

Roy’s ball wasn’t pretty but it was necessary for our development. (It’s like saving for a deposit for a house - for a period of years - you can’t go out and spend or splash the cash as you did previously, in essence for a period of time you become boring as it is a needs must if you want that deposit for your future)

Roy should get our respect he fulfilled his brief of keeping us afloat and is a significant part of our recent history, appreciate what he did for us and try not to compare to Viera as they have different briefs.

I will salute Roy and clap him and enjoy the game. He laid the foundations after a period of instability with chop and change and on-going firefighting with management.

Viera essentially is a better attempt at what we tried to achieve with FDB!

He deserves a good send off, not only did he keep us afloat, he also did a great job in taking Watford down

Good post, that's exactly how I see it (and I suspect most Palace fans will feel the same).

Good point about the saving for a deposit, a good analogy.
If I was ever going to have any time away from Palace , ‘the Roy years’ should have been it. Playing like that we were effectively stealing money , if we believe that football is an entertainment industry. If it was all a master plan, then fair play to the people at the top, but for actually enjoying going to watch football, I’d have rathered been playing in the league below and actually trying to win games.

There were many on here who wanted Roy to stay seeming to believe he was the only manager who could keep us up and feeling he was the safe pair of hands needed during a transition.
I was one of those who wanted to see him gone, while still acknowledging that he had done a reasonable job.
But in fairness so did Pulis and Allardyce , even if they do have some unpleasant characteristics.
I don't see Roy as a miracle worker but as a steady manager who ticked the boxes while in charge here.
Nothing more and nothing less.
If some want to show extra appreciation then that is their choice, but if there are those who just see his work as nothing out of the ordinary then that is surely equally valid.

I loved Roy, he was a real gentleman. He did a great job for a couple of years, but the last couple of years, although still keeping us out of trouble, it was dreadful and painful to watch, especially last season. I was so pleased when he left, I couldn’t take anymore, which is a shame because he’s a top bloke.
