4 goals for Luke in 26 games for Derby (Wikipedia tells me) so not earth shattering though from reports he contributed a few assists and it was a difficult environment.

Relegation battle, 19 years old leading the line up front. Could be his level is beyond the U23s and we will have Akinwale moving up I imagine. On loan sounds a decent bet but let's hope he surprises us and can compete for the first team.

Be interesting to see if he goes to Derby for a season in L1 or if a Championship side comes in for him for a season long loan.

I can't see him getting any first team time yet in the Premier League.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

I don't think so as there is also Mateta, Édouard, Ayew and Zaha, so we would have options. Plus Plange and maybe one or two from the U23s will be on the fringes. There's no place for Benteke anymore and he needs to know it. We need to free up the wages. We'd more likely need a wide player in my opinion.

They're not great options though, are they? Mateta, while improving recently, is nowhere near the level. Eduoard, while showing quality, clearly isn't consistent enough and doesn't have PV's backing. Ayew...yeah, he won't be a regular forward for us...and Zaha wants to play wide. Plange...untested at this level. Gamble.

Benteke, while seemingly out of favour, still has quality and offers us something no other striker has. Wouldn't be selling him until we undoubtedly upgrade.

Plange IS an upgrade on Benteke, tho tbf, anyone is an upgrade.

Agreed. He has a reluctance to run, press and work. None of our other strikers have that reluctance.

I'd agree. And it probably is a bit ridiculous to suggest that Plange should be above Benteke in the pecking order.

But I just want that guy gone, I don't care that he can head a ball. He is so far away from the type of player that we want and need, that I'd happily get rid with no replacement.

We don't have Harry Kane or Erling Haaland or whatever his name is, no. But Mateta and Édouard are adequate and they are better than Benteke. I'm not hating on Benteke due to some personal agenda, it's just that he does nothing. He's done nothing for a while now - and it has happened far too often after he signs a contract.
He will be gone anyway, making this a moot point. If we could have forced him to go to Burnley, we would have. I hope Burnley make an offer again of 2 or 3 mil and we will take it. Benteke will get the 'there's no place for you' message.
That's the life of a footballer.
Based on any recent performances would you pick Benteke to start? And we have cover, as stated.

Played well today, still looks somewhat unsure, perhaps low on confidence, to me anyways. He and others may just still be adapting to how Vieira wants to play, not just how they want/are used to. Just a thought.

I think Edouard has the potential to be a very good player for us. I would suggest it's way too early to rule him out purely because he hasn't set the world alight. If next season proves fruitless, we may well start looking at other options, including that of selling him. I definitely hope this isn't the case.

Just a small point, perhaps not even a correct one, but I do remember thinking on a number occasions this afternoon, when my eyes scanned a bit more broadly, we were lacking a final pass? I'm not talking about during moves down the wing or quicker breaks forward etc. Sometimes we'd have the ball in advanced positions, sometimes even with the CBs, and I could see plenty of decent movement up front but no pass was forthcoming, it inevitably went sideways or even just out wide.

Totally agree with you on this. On many occasions saw him and another just waiting for the ball just outside the centre circus in the oppo half and clear enough for a through ball to them but instead the ball kept being sent to the flanks. We hardly run the ball through the centre to attack the oppo.

Still think there is a player there. Deserves a run of games
