I suspect this summer is going to be one of change, whatever league we're in next season, for a variety of reasons. Put briefly:

Last year, Vieira really re-invented the club. New, attractive playing style; Cup Semi-Final. Comfortable, mid-table finish. We ended the year absolutely set to push on.

And then...the board/investors totally dropped the ball. Having been taken to the cusp of real progress, they effectively said "no thanks. Not if we have to spend any money" when the summer window came. They had the chance of a lifetime to push us ahead and they rejected it.

Had we built on last season over the summer, replaced Conor properly, and brought in three of four (rather than just one) quality players, Wilf would likely have re-upped having seen we actually had some ambition, and we'd probably be in the top ten, etc. by now.

Instead, the opportunity's gone; we're struggling, and if you were at Villa today you'll know it's starting to feel like it's all coming apart at the seams. Today was just awful. Even the support was sub-standard. You can pick holes in Vieira's management and that's fair enough but it's our owners who really need to be held accountable for this mess. You cannot own a business, fail to back it and take no interest in it yet expect it to succeed. That's a recipe, sooner or later, for disaster. And that's where we are.

I don't think the present status quo can last and I suspect over the summer something's going to have to give. Because if we do manage to avoid relegation, it'll be obvious to even Harris and Blitzer that their own actions are jeopardizing their investment at this point. Which means they'll have to either s*** or get off the pot.

What happens next I have no idea but something will change because it's becoming clear there's no other alternative. Only a fool would repeat the same behaviour this coming summer and expect a different outcome. Whatever else they are, Harris, Bltizer, Parish, and Textor aren't fools.

You seem to think just investing and buying more players is the answer! Ask West Ham fans if it is, after over £150m spent in the last 2 windows. There is a lot more required, its not as simple as you believe.

Investing doesn't guarantee success, but not investing guarantees decline. Look at Newcastle before their buyout, Southampton's decline, Leicester's decline ... our decline.

Syd's right - this summer is massive, assuming we stay up. It's as big as the one two summers ago was when we lost 10 players and had to buy a new team. We're going to need to bring in 5 or 6 at first 11 level. If we make a mess of it we'll probably go next year because Zaha ain't gonna bail us out.

A very good post Syd as usual. One factor I think was that Textor was buying majority shares in two European clubs, Molenbeek and Olympique (thanks Wiki) so put Palace on hold, with very detrimental consequences. So Palace is reduced to holding on to the end of the season, when hopefully he will tur his attention to Palace again. The world of football finance is a nest of international billions and compl city, in which Palace are losing out big time atm

This looks like a case of two and two making five as you have no basis for your comment at all as it's just guesswork.

Textor owns 40% of Palace so is just a minority shareholder yet the fans seem to think that he should be providing all of the funding which is ridiculous.

Parish is the problem as he doesn't have sufficient funds to pay his way so it's time for him to sell out to someone with deeper pockets as he promised to do all those years ago when he tried to kid us all that he was a reluctant investor.

The club needs significant spending on players but Parish is unwilling / unable to fund his share of the required investment and the Americans aren't willing to fund all of the purchases until Parish stops treating the club as his personal fiefdom.

You are correct that something needs to be done or in hand before the end of the season otherwise we will be feeding on scraps again

It does seem to be a ridiculous rule within our boardroom that no one can spend more than anyone else. Parish doesn't have £20m to throw in to the pot and why should the others front his share? The outcome is predictable. We keep scouring the obscure European and South American leagues and trying to pull rabbits out of hats on a shoestring until we go down.

Exactly. It sometimes reminds me of the joke about the man who orders mussels in a restaurant in hope to pay the the bill with the pearl he finds in one of them.

Botafogo players still not been paid apparently , according to twitter , so something is definitely wrong somewhere

The issue is that Parish appears to still wants control whilst asking the others for more money.
However the Textor/Botafogo issue is worrying

Or the issue is that Textor wants to spend other peoples money by racking up club debt and Parish is against it. We simply don't know.

So let's get this straight:

Parish doesn't have much to spend and wants others to contribute more

Textor wants to spend other peoples money

What a fine business model...

It is indeed my business model fr buying the groceries but a nightmare business model for what is an established PL club. One thing for sure is that it's not going to be established for muc longer🥵

I don't think that you have got this straight at all.

You are correct that it seems that Parish doesn't have much to spend but Textor doesn't want to spend other peoples' money as he wants each shareholder to contribute in proportion to their voting rights which is completely different
