People go on holidays to hot countries as they enjoy the heat, why do the media make such a fuss about a some hot weather here?

In Seville (and possibly Spain) the public has the right to go into any bar and restaurant for water and toilets. So you carry a water bottle which you can refill anywhere (good for the environment) and you don't have to worry about finding a public loo.

I think it's a great idea and as we gave the hospitality sector billions we should do likewise over here.

Continental houses are designed and built to keep out the heat whilst British houses are designed and built to keep it in.

Whether villa or hotel holiday most people will have access to a pool to cool off in as well

I don't know why, but this reminded me of Ebenezer Scrooge's rhetorical question, "And the Union workhouses; are they still in operation?"

I can foresee the responses to this, but referencing '76 is missing the point entirely. It's not about "a bit of hot weather". It's about a significant change in climate over the years, with parts of Europe literally on fire and the UK set to record it's highest ever temperature. The frequency of these "hottest since..." events are increasing.

Yes, freak heat waves happen like in '76 but it's the frequency, length and overall change in climate that is a concern.

Also, what's wrong with messaging about staying hydrated? If you're smart enough and healthy enough to not suffer in the heat then great - you can move on. But it's not about "you" - it's about everyone, and lots of people will die (as they did in '76).

This isn't me being "woke" although if it is, I don't get why that would be an insult...

If you like the heat, go and enjoy it and have a great day, but this is part of a very dangerous trend that is going to leave future generations in an irreversible position.

Well said. The trouble is too may people don't want to hear or believe the climate message. They reference past heatwaves to supposedly show hot weather is nothing new, or in winter, when you get a cold spell, to glibly say "well, where's global warming now?

Individual weather events are not in themselves an indicator of climate change, but an on-going changing pattern of events, and an increasing frequency of them, is.

I'm off to the beach. Temp is only 32, and should only take an hour or so with the dogs in the car. A quick stop as Asda for some Stella and Lambrini (something for the lady) and some chocolate and crisps. Got me shorts and flip flops so i can get a good tan and show off my multitude of tattoos. Not that anyone will see them, I expect Brighton beach to be quite quiet today, with easy affordable parking.

**EDIT** and because it's Brighton, the hot weather warning code is from RED to INDIGO (inclusive), so they don't offend any minority groups

On a slightly more serious note, we have some local and National Agriculture shows over the next few weeks that are all going to be impacted. The biggest problem is the movement of livestock in suitably ventilated trailers that aren't going to act like ovens, particularly on longer trips.
Agriculture also has it's own irrigation and harvesting problems pending

My firm is actually having air conditioning fitted at the moment, they started last week and probably wonít be finished till the end of the week. Itís like a massive hot green house at the best of times, (itís a car showroom) without this intense heat. Thankfully Iím out on the road a lot of the time and Iím off today and tomorrow.

The irony of air conditioning fitters doing short days and not getting the job finished because of the heat in our place hasnít escaped us as well

So your saying it has to be believed? Itís not as if I do not get taxed or treated the same as others because I think itís bollox but Iím entitled to my opinion. Why should it wind people up so much. Itís MY opinion, I might be wrong but so could you and all the others.

39 degrees C forecast for London tomorrow. Wow.

ok, all the whingeing and moaning. Some people like the heat, some love the cold.

So Eagles, tell us your comfortable temperature range...for the weather out there.

for me....

5 to 22 degrees C. Go outside this range and i start to feel grumpy.

and yourself ?

In short, yes... It's not about believing your opinion or my opinion - it's about believing the work of thousands of experts in climate science analysing data over the course of decades.

Mike on Facebook who says he doesn't believe it all because of '76 and because he likes sitting in the garden with a Stella and his shirt off doesn't compete.

I'd be happy to reconsider my views if I was presented with scientific evidence, but a failure to "believe" it will be catastrophic for our kids and grandkids.

Don't get me wrong, I'm going to pop in the garden now on my lunch break and enjoy the sun but it's a truly worrying time...
