There’s a programme about the Palace academy on Channel 4 at 9.00pm this Thursday
Trivial fact - Palace used to win 5-1 at least once a season, maybe next season? |

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Good piece in The Times by Henry Winter this morning which promotes the Palace academy and tonight's programme. Here [Link]

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Football Dreams- The Academy' by becky Did anyone watch this tonight on channel 4? Was a really good insight into what the academy coaching is like as well.

Great episode. The main coach came across really well. I knew a guy who's kid went through the academy, and was dropped before U18's. I always remember him saying how stressful it was for the whole family, and last nights episode showed that. How on earth do some of these parents do it? 3 practice session and a match. One of the single mums had another boy at Chelsea.

Hot on the heels of the Sky series ' Final Shot ', it was a very interesting watch. I was most impressed with Phil Hingston, the U12 coach. The way he conducts himself and his interaction with his players is excellent.

I enjoyed watching last night. Very tough, but such good discipline for the kids whether they make it or not. As others have written, Phil Hingston came across well as did other Academy staff in the way they dealt with their duty of care. Also good, of course, as a promotional piece for our club. The last sentence in The Times TV review was 'It (almost) made you want to become a Crystal Palace fan'. Doubt I'll still be around by the time Kairo makes the first team though.

How on earth do some of these parents do it? 3 practice session and a match. One of the single mums had another boy at Chelsea. Why is it relevant to state that she's single? You really need to ask? It's hardly rocket science is it? Perhaps you're not a parent. It can be challenging for two parents to juggle after school activities and try and help their children maximise their potential. The cost is not just in money but also time, effort and stress. It's not a new concept. Many parents make great sacrifices for their children. It must be doubly difficult for a single parent, maybe even more so.
