The games should have been played in my opinion but maybe they were worried about being criticised for playing or they might worry that a load of idiots would hijack it for the wrong reasons and show disrespect like I believe the Zurich fans did last night.
Well played West Ham with a spontaneous National Anthem and the Real Sociadad fans at Old Trafford who showed much respect.

Stopping all sport for what? A show of respect? Bunkum.

A minute's silence and black armbands would surely suffice.

No no instead of that let's screw up the fixture list even more than it already is with the Quatar Cup.

The FA and PL guarranteed to make the wrong call as usual.

I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything.

This game is going to be an absolute nightmare to rearrange. The European schedule this year is absolutely brutal.

Unless the league considers putting in a round of games midweek on 21st/22nd December (WC final is 18th December), then this will be mid-January at the absolute earliest.

With cup games in January hopefully these will be played later in the season when not so many teams are in Europe. Although we all know they will be played when it best suits the “bigger” clubs

Remember Prince William is still President of the FA. This may also be a factor. As it is it's understandable even if personally I would rather the games had gone ahead.

Postponement. What an utterly ridiculous gesture.

If the Queen stood for anything, it was the "life must go on" ethos. She herself showed us perhaps more than anyone that it could go on even at the worst of times, without sacrificing dignity, reflection, and respect.

The postponement of games this weekend is nothing more than yet another sickening example of people's modern-day desire to bathe in the spotlight of a major event; to somehow make ourselves central to a narrative which is entirely unrelated to what we are doing. By postponing football a statement is being made about football, not about the death of the Queen.

The club's social media announcements yesterday, a minute's silence at games and black armbands were both appropriate and sufficient displays of mourning instead of which we now have a completely unnecessary and self-indulgent hi-jacking by football of the nation's grief. Mourning the loss of the Queen is in no way enhanced by the postponement of football matches. In fact, the very opposite is true. This weekend's games afforded a now wasted chance for communities to come together and collectively and publicly show their respect.

Pathetic. One again the game of football makes me utterly sick.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

The Queen epitomised ' The Show Must Go On ' mentality. I think she would be baffled by the decision to postpone some sports while others continue.

Tbh, this was my first thought when I heard they were postponing them all, if anything it's the opposite of what she probably would have wanted.

I noticed that the strike on the 17th has been called off, does anyone think that might mean they will reinstate the Brighton game? Might help with the fixtures backlog?

The trouble with computers, of course, is that they're very sophisticated idiots

Penrith played Parramatta on the other side of the World this morning. They held a minutes silence observed by all of the crowd and then played the game.

Well done Aussies.

Even my sons under 12s league is postponed this weekend.

It's not the end of the world for football to be called off for one weekend, but neither is it necessary, proportionate or demonstrably in line with the wishes of the people who, so we are told, dear old Liz (and she really did seem to be a nice lady) was merely a servant of.

Play the games. Let life go on. If anyone feels too upset to partake, or that so doing is inappropriate, then they can make that decision for themselves. I for one would respect their position, as I would hope they respect that I feel very differently.

Still, best these decisions are taken for us.

Solid post.

I feel as though the absolute pomp and ceremony of the royal family has come to the fore which is of course superior to any logic or objective decision making.

I am quite comfortable stating I was very saddened at the Queens death and feel it is worthy of marking, mourning, celebrating her life etc however the correlation to a seemingly mass banning of football, with all going on in this country atm seems so archaic it’s unbelievable.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I’m in two minds about this for one reason postponing football. It is a major time for this country and a chance to show that the history and heritage of these islands are more important than anything or anyone, especially those who detest their own, and for that reason I can accept it. You know the weekend would be ruined by the behaviour of a self obsessed footballer.

The Queen was not even into football.
A gun salute, national anthem , never walk alone, whatever but let the show go on for Gawds sake.
