Agree, he should be nowhere near them, as has been expressed numerous times previously. The only reason he takes them is because he is selfish and wanted more goals and has forced his own demands ahead of what is best for the team.

Wilf had another poor game yesterday, whilst playing as the one up top he needs to be an outlet but made no real attempt to make runs or show for the ball. Eze was a waste of space, completely ineffectual and too easily muscled off the ball and Olise is worryingly becoming a one trick pony.

Schlupp worked his socks off but we desperately need an upgrade - we miss Gallagher so much.

Clyne had a good game as did Doucouré but truth of the matter is we didn’t threaten the goal of a poor Forest side once in the entire game. Not good enough!

Although there are those here that worship Zaha, I see him as a hindrance to the club moving on and others stepping up. He's wildly inconsistent and not as good as he or his agent thinks he is; why he takes penalties I have no idea, although capable of striking the ball cleanly he often scuffs it. He must have a fair amount of dressing room clout and the ear of the manager to end up playing up top, a role that his skill set and football brain doesn't warrant.
There's a serious lack of balance in this side and he is the main reason for it; other players have mentioned that they look to pass the ball to him, which is completely wrong - how about owning the responsibility and playing like a team?

Always interesting to read the comments here. Lots of immediate post-match grief giving way to a more thoughtful analysis as the pain subsides. We have a young team playing entertaining football and a business strategy that is based on a developing academy and buying players from lower leagues who have potential. Better teams than us (Manure for example)have no business strategy. We’ve come a long way in the last 2 years!

Most players and especially young ones are inconsistent which is why you need a squad. We are short of numbers and clearly have players the manager doesn’t feel can cut the mustard at this level except as late subs.- Hughes, Riedewald, and Milo. Mitchell needs a rest so may benefit from the break. Hopefully we bring in a couple of players in January. For me we still need a replacement for Mac in midfield.

That said we are comfortably mid table and that’s where we are likely to finish this season. We’re doing ok. Keep the faith. COYP!

I keep telling myself that but when you see the really poor performances like yesterday you have to think how close we are to going on a bad pointless run. I realise this type of see-saw football we play is very Palace but I find it irritating when fans can see we are only a few players away from a decent team and yet we never quite push on and fill the holes.

To me this is where Dougie needs to be scouring the lower leagues for nuggets to fill these gaps. They are almost certainly out there as decent players have to come from somewhere, they don’t always start off at a top 6 side.

You have a good point about Zaha, he has a lot of say, and PV has a blind spot as far as Ayew and Sclupp are concerned,

Watching the match yesterday and thought it was off side, looks like a VAR blunder again . [Link]

I totally agree, VAR cock up again. I’m glad it wasn’t just me.

He was without doubt offside, we did not see the red and blue lines and the only one that looked as though it might have been offside was a image that was taken from virtually behind the goal line and at an angle, all the ones taken along the line was clearly offside

Likewise! I’m yet to see an image where Gibbs-White looks onside.

The whole VAR thing is an absolute joke.

1) Zaha is better on the wing. However, he won the penalty kick by being in the center of play. Can't fault PV too much.
2) Except for a dubious-to-shameful VAR overturn, we'd have earned a clean sheet.
3) Ayew played old today. He's the player who most needs to rest during the WC break, but no.
4) We need to find a midfielder with MacArthur's or Gallagher's energy. Quality isn't as important as non-stop, aggressive, pesky focus on the ball. We need a complement to the silky smooth quality of Eze and Olise – we need more caffeine in the heart of the pitch.
5) 80-85% of the time, Clyne is better than Ward. But while Ward's "mistakes" arise from lack of pace & finesse, Clyne's are those of focus. Both kinds of errors can be costly. Still, I'd start Clyne.
6) Love to see Mitchell rested and at his best for the remainder of the season.

Wilf is a player who is exempt from criticism from large parts of the fanbase.

These hairline decisions are supposed to even themselves out over the season, why is it I feel they never do? I can reel off endless ones that have gone against us, yet the Newcastle one is the only one I can think of that went our way. Time to scrap VAR and the cretins, I mean experts that make these decisions….

There’s a difference between criticism and vitriol in my opinion.

His value and place in the team now, performances etc = objective criticism. Should not be shot down or disregarded.

His value to us over the past decade+, his place in Palace history and our hearts = very hard to condone let alone understand any vitriol there.

It is possible to make statements such as Wilf ‘one of our greatest’, ‘integral to this very successful period in our history’, ‘still one of if not our best players currently’ alongside questioning of his performances, attitude and value to the side from a tactical perspective currently.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!
