Spot on. We spent big, moved up a notch in terms of debt/out goings and got absolutely nothing for it. Sure you can say 'oh we survived' but, at what cost...

We need to be totally honest and readjust who we 'say' we are.

We need to be competing with the signings the promoted teams chase. We need to be prodding talent to then sell on. I don't mind us being a stepping stone. I am happy to watch exciting young players come through and mature with us. I never want us signing the likes of Benteke, Sakho, to an extent even Cabaye.

We get stones, we polish them up and sell diamonds.

It was obvious under Hodgson it was 'hold the line' whilst we recoup money, now it should be - let's unearth the local talent and get players playing.

I've fallen out of love with palace, that's on me.. no one else, but I don't connect with the club, yeah I see them on TV more, but it's not always enjoyable.

Where did we go wrong, selling FFS and thinking we were bigger than we were, largely down to Pardew.

Nah. Who signed the cheques? Do you really think that self made man Parish is so easily persuaded to part with his cash. For him surely it was part of the dream, like the new stadium. Problem is the game is full of grifters, sick notes and overpaid chumps...

I’d almost rather play with 10 men than watch Jeff Schlupp impersonate a football player. Woeful.

I know there are a lot of players who should be criticised but can someone please explain to me what Jeff Schlupps role is in that team? The chap is absolutely horrific. He is a marker of where we are at this current stage and as long as he in that starting 11 it is guaranteed that we are not moving forward as a club.

Second that!
No idea why he is included game after game.

With our midfield so unbalanced I would play Luka, Doucoure and Hughes in the middle with Olise and Zaha either side of them and Matteta as our main forward. Normal back four and with that 11 we will pick up the necessary points to keep us in the prem. Eza as an impact player from the bench. I’m sure PV won’t do that, but after Forrest, Fulham and Spurs and with tough games coming up we will drop into a relegation fight if he doesn’t sort the unbalanced midfield out :-(

To be fair I think you have a point. We need to batten down the hatches and grind out a few draws against the bigger teams. If that means a solid midfield and a bit of Royball so be it.

I think the issue is we are a small club in finance terms and when we tried to go big with Sakho and Bentenke it left no money for other areas of the squad and those two left for free. This meant we spent many years under Hodgson with no money to invest in the squad which led to us having an old and depleted squad. Last summer we finally did a mini overhaul but it was not enough as we had very few players of any real value left. We do seem to be going in the right direction now.

Next one out the door for free could well be Zaha. That would really not be good.

I have to ask why would he stay? His career is treading water, and surely he has only got one last shout at playing for a big club...

I fully agree. Against the top teams we cannot afford the luxury players all across our midfield as they do nothing without the ball. Its giving the better teams too much time and space and puts too much pressure on our back 4.(The stats don't lie)

Something like this would be a sensible change:

Guaita

Ward - Guehi - Anderson - Mitchell(when back)

Luka

Doucoure Hughes

Ayew Eze

Zaha

More workmanlike but solid, need to start with defence against the top 6 sides and hope the forwards can create a moment of magic.

We have players we can bring on to change things if needed, but team needs more steel at this time.

Happy to stick with normal formation against lower teams as this seems to work a little more.

Some people are like Slinkies … not really good for anything, but you can’t help smiling when you see one tumble down the stairs.

Schlupp should be used as a sub only, he is really much more suited as that on the hour mark.
