I think few would dispute that Eze has far more natural ability than the alternatives available.
However, that in itself is not enough and even his biggest fans would surely have to acknowledge that he doesn't warrant an automatic place on current form.
He had a good 20 mins v Brentford, but otherwise has not pulled up any trees in recent months.
I'd love Eze to succeed, but at the moment I can see why his involvement is limited.
Look how hard other talented playmakers at other clubs work for 90 mins every game.
Eze has a lot of work to do to be included in their company.

Exactly this, look at how much work Brennan Johnson out in for forest yesterday was all over pitch scored two goals unlucky not to get a hat trick

I have calmed down before waiting to post but have read most previous posts and there seems to be no doubt that we are all somewhat concerned!
We are deep in the mire now and much as I want PV to succeed I am not sure that he knows what to do any longer.
He tinkers with the team and constantly drops certain players while keeping others in there regardless of how badly they might be playing.
There also seems to be no plan which worries me.
The players look constantly knackered compared to other teams and therefore we don't press as much as we could.
We have bought a new player and left him on the bench and Derry has been fired for shouting at the players (as far as we know anyway).
Something is wrong in the club/team at the moment and although PV was an incredible footballer I do wonder if he is out of his depth now with the tools he has at his disposal?
Worrying times

I'm aligned with your perspective Dolphin.

Even in wanting to chastise or ridicule myself for such thoughts I am struggling to identify any straws to grasp at beyond other team's troubles.

I honestly thought the Liverpool performance was promising despite the still non-existence of goal threat however the defeat this weekend has swiftly washed that hope away.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Dosent it ever cross your mind that the atmosphere and despondency among some players is the root cause by the manager, when under Roy there was know lack of effort by anyone, apart from the Statuesque Benteke, how do you explain the current disparaging situation

The Eze conundrum is that he has the ability to unpick a defence like no other player in the squad, but offers very little defensively. In the games since the WC we have largely been the underdog aside from Bournemouth and possibly Brentford. In games where we are likely to be defending more we don't have the luxury of fielding a player in midfield who can't or won't contribute much defensively. Olise seems to work harder to get back these days which is why, I think, he has consistently been picked while Eze hasn't. I imagine in the final 10 games we'll see Eze starting most games, as pointed towards by his start against Villa. If Eze is going to start every game then either he needs to improve his work rate and defensive support, or we need to find a way of removing that responsibility. Personally I am always happier when I see his name on the team sheet.

I'm not seeking to defend Vieira or to claim he is a great man manager.
What I am suggesting is that it's down to individual players to make themselves undroppable, to demonstrate why they should be amongst the first names on the team sheet.
The likes of Eze and Edouard have not demonstrated this.
A good 20 mins every 5 or so games is not enough.
When both showed good form in the early part of the season they were selected.

There could be an argument that Vieira is failing to get the best out of them but this theory could only be definitively tested if they were to excel under another manager as opposed to Vieira.
We shall have to see and time will tell.

That is certainly correct, no doubt about it

Have to admit I'm now leaning towards there being a change.

I don't think we've recruited particularly well but the complete inability of the team to play with any intensity or energy or raise the tempo at all is undisputable IMO. This alongside the distance covered stat isn't great.

The tough run of fixtures argument doesn't hold much water either as there has been inconsistency throughout the division all season.

I think everyone's view (including my own) would probably be a little different if we'd hung on and got the three points at Brentford when ironically it was one of Viera's trusted players in Ayew that let him down most.

Also stats around our play including having two of the four most dispossessed players in the Premier League in Zaha(1) and Ayew(4) not forgetting an honourable mention for the lazy Edouard (in 20th) despite his relatively low minutes.

I can't put forward any suggestions although definitely not Derry or Freedman who both have poor managerial records and fall into the dinosaur category IMO irrespective of broader politics.
