It's as easy as you make it. The chairman's primary job is to hire good people. The manager is the most important of those people. To attract the right candidates, you have to sell the club to them; persuade them it's an attractive position and that if they take the job, you'll back them. Parish's failure to hire his first, second, and indeed other choices before alighting on Vieira last time around is a clear sign that he's not been up to the task. His hiring decision is based on whatever he can get. Brighton seem to be able to identify and attract good managers. So do Forest. Wolves have generally been able to do the same. As have Villa at least with their most recent hire. Yet here we are, a PL club for ten years relying on our reserve team manager to put out the fire this weekend when the board has known for a long time that Vieira was likely to be sacked. That's rank incompetence. You mean that Nottingham forest and Wolves who have spent massively more than us and are below us? That makes zero sense. As for incompetence....well we are still in the Premier League so he hasn't done too badly. With a decent youth system now in place. He's done more than previous chairman hasn't he? Every year the same rhetoric comes out, Parish is the devil, He isn't here to burn down the club. It benefits him for us to do well, so it isn't like he is trying to ruin the club. If the billionaire owners don't want to spend their cash what would you have him do? Edited by CpfcWeTrust1 (17 Mar 2023 10.14pm)

Please not Hodgson. Old, out of the business for 18 months and more use at fixing the only thing that isn't broke - the defence Don't forget we lost 6 of his last 8 games as well

Hodgson got his last team relegated. Is he really going to motivate these players? He certainly isn't the most ridiculous suggestion on this thread. Not even close.

If we have sacked Viera only to reappoint Roy Hodgson it shows just how little ambition we actually have and also shows just how little idea Parish actually has about running a football club. It would show zero ambition and offer zero hope we will ever step on to the next level.

I think at this stage of the season it might be difficult to appoint a "permanent manager" ( a contradiction in terms I know) of any stature with us in the position we are in. Who would want to take the risk of blotting their CV? Therefore a stop-gap manager seems more likely, but who? I would like to think Parish had some plan in mind when Patrick was sacked rather than it being a spur of the moment thing without any thought of a potential successor. I have to say I would be concerned about Roy returning. I well remember the sight of he and Lewington cutting rather forlorn figures on the touchline as the Watford ship sank this time last year. At this stage I feel we need someone not only tactically astute but also inspirational - someone who can lift and galvanise the team, and I am not sure Roy is the one to do this.

Think I will switch off from watching Palace for a while if Hodgson comes back. Never thought I'd feel like that about Palace but I find the thought of it utterly depressing.

It shows we are desperate to stay up in order to go again. That’s it. That’s all there would be a Hodgson appointment.

Luka, Schlupp and Ayew will all hope for a Roy return - all favourites of his and used to his methods.

I've missed about five home games in the last ten years and the last three months has been the most spineless rubbish of the lot by a distance. Anything is better including Roy.
