Please not Roy, his time has been. I do not think it is worth appointing a Manager with 11 games to go & who in their right mind would want to take on such a position, only someone looking for a fast buck
Let Paddy McCarthy give it go with guidance from whoever is left within, the people who understand the Club & how it works.
In the meantime look for a suitable replacement including half a squad of players & hopefully if we stay up we are ready for the next season. None of this last minute.com from previous years which has left us in the position we find ourselves in now!

The trouble is where is the guidance left within coming from. I've said in other threads that lack of investment has been a major problem at this club for years, and, I stick by that. We ain't had a decent striker since Glenn Murray, that ain't any manager's fault, that is the fault of the board. Hodgson ain't the answer either, that is just standing still, or going backwards. It pains me to say it, but, take a look at br1-3on. To progress in this big boys game investment is needed, and, a decent scouting system, we, don't have either.

Dear god, has it really come to this, have we no more ambition than to re-employ Roy. Roy did his job, for which we are eternally grateful, but to bring him back would be madness, please NO a thousand times NO

Roy would be an utterly depressing appointment who would serve absolutely no purpose as far as I'm concerned. Let's not forget that our problem is an inability to score goals, he's the manager you appoint when you can't defend. If we appoint him we should have just kept Vieira.

Roy in the current situation is the perfect stop gap appointment until the end of the season to ensure we stay up. Then a full time appointment can be made in the summer. It cant be a depressing as no wins in 12 and adversity to shoot at goal under Vieira.
He knows the club and most of the players.

Parish has to keep putting a sticking plaster over his previous errors of judgement, running round like the plate spinning circus act desperate to keep the plates aloft.
Roy held the fort, nothing more. Actually he was saved by the lockdown, the gruel he served up wouldn't have been tolerated in front of a crowd. And now Patrick Vieira is the latest victim of poor planning and what is highly frustrating is that we were very nearly there last season with a competitive team capable of trading blows with the best. At that point investment in the right areas of the pitch to cover those players that had left would have held us in good stead.
Frankly I can't see any investor or potential manager coming here while Parish is still at the helm. The sooner he sells his stake and f***s off into the sunset the better for all involved.
Only a desperado would want to manage here given Parish's previous history.

Agreed - this might be post of the day for me.

How utterly depressing if the Roy news is true. If Watford is anything to go by we are down.

Big risk for Parish if Roy takes us down. He will lose a lot of support for this appointment whether you agree with the merits of it or not. Conceding goals wasn’t the issue with Pat. Can Roy walk back in the doors and the boys will play for him, will he get that reaction/bounce.. I can’t see it. If this is the route we go I believe we are down.

De facto Paddy is going to be in charge until someone else comes in. The longer the board takes, the longer Paddy will have to make his case

If Hodgson gets the job then the only way Parish will get the message is by people fvcking it off - a half empty Selhurst will wake him up but it will be too late.

The clubs a fvcking joke and has been for a while.

I’m forever grateful for what Roy Hodgson done for this club. An impeccable gentleman, nice guy and good manager for us at the time.
Do I want him to come back. No. Why?

1. For his sake I don’t want him to come back and tarnish his reputation by possibly being the manager in charge if we go down. I think he got away with Watford as they were as good as down when he took over, and it’s a basket case of a club.
2. When he was here, he had a lot of older seasoned professionals who he could respond to his form of coaching. We now have 6-7 quality players, a few who are squad players, a few who are past it from injury, age or attitude and some youngsters who aren’t deemed good enough. The right back, left back and striker options are worst then Roy was here and Zaha is no longer as effective. I’m not sure he’s the right man.
3. We need to think long term. Get in a short term appointment and the board will spend all summer on a manager recruitment, leaving it once again to the last minute to get players in. And whatever division we are in this squad needs a serious overhaul in the summer. Last thing we need is to ill prepared for the start of the season again!

Thinking about it, this squad needs such a overhaul that I think we have to consider that we may well go down because we went into this season poorly prepared and there is now nothing that can be done to stop that.

Get in a manager, who will stick around no matter what division we are in and let him have more input In recruitment and support him. Exactly what we should have done with Vieira.

No point having a putting a plaster on it attitude anymore. If the board isn’t prepared or can’t afford to invest in the squad, consider that going down, regrouping and planning coming back better prepared may be what we will have to do. We have papered over the cracks for too long.

Excellent post.

Spot on, in my opinion.

Agree with your post. If things do go from bad to worse Roy will get dogs abuse and it will be toxic. He does not deserve this and I don’t want to see that either. As you reference in your post I hope he rejects this role to protect his legacy with us.
