I’m sure someone has said this before, but I’ll say it again now, I was under the impression that when the Whitehorse lane stand and sainsburys were built it was done with the footings in place to put another tier over the top without having to demolish anything at a later time.
If that is the case then once the new stand is finished (????) and the corporate boxes are moved, then a second tier could be built behind that goal.
Whether any of us will live long enough to see this happen is a different question completely.

I wouldn't be too pessimistic, with the rate at which technology is advancing, some of us may well be alive in 400 years time.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

No so sure about that Nicholas.

We're 3d printing the new main stand but we've run out of space in Parish's garage.

Whitehorse road end is due to have changes at the same time as the new stand is built
.the pitch is due to be lengthened, to meet international standards it will be lengthened at the Whitehorse end, I think it is 2 maybe three yards, will be taken from seating area that end

Looking at pictures, I worked out that you could probably add around another 3000 seats to the WHL if you used the space currently taken up by boxes. That would make it hold around 4500 with the longer pitch. That would take the capacity up near 37k with the new corner section next to the Holmesdale.

Looking at the Arthur Waite Stand, it is currently at ground level, so that means that a second tier would effectively only bring it up to the height of a one tier stand.
Would that be a problem with light etc?

Ideally, another modest sized tier could add say another 5k. That would take us over 40k.
That would put us up with the biggest stadiums outside of the really big boys.
Anything bigger would probably need relocation.

You can tell I have time on my hands this morning.

Edit.

The issue with the AW is that a second tier would presumably have to sit over the existing one due to lack of room behind it. That might cause an issue with sight lines for those at the rear of the lower tier.

This all just proves that I'm no architect.

Re the Arthur; two possibilities:-

1. replace the roof with a tier of seats but with no subsequent roof (i.e. it is an open top tier). That shouldn't alter the overall height too much. Several stadiums abroad have them. Put the away fans up there and if it rains hand out free red and blue ponchos!
2. Didn't Ron Noades start the process of buying up the houses behind the Arthur so that the stand could be heightened. Same again, even building the stand over the road, so that it becomes a tunnel for traffic. That should give circa 45k if the WH is also amended as per your suggestion.

hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing.

There aren't actually that many houses directly behind the AW. They could be bought up I suppose.

One would have to question the need for a public road in that case. A pedestrian area could then be created with police access, and the new tier could then come backward.
Something like this would obviously require full cooperation from the council, then Mayor of London and fending off any local objections.
It certainly would make Selhurst Park more like a proper stadium.

Obviously, anything like this would be several years off. We won't see the Main Stand for 2 or 3 years, but it does seem like the club has to take advantage of our current status and grow to the levels of a bigger London club.
I don't know how much capacity you could squeeze out of the AW.
15K would be quite substantial when you consider that the new main stand will be around 13k.

If at some point we bought out Sainsbury's or incorporated it into a stand, we could probably then go to around 46K.

Do we really need more? Not until we start winning things.

I'm sure Steve Parish would be laughing if he read this stuff. It would be years of headache ahead for him.

Ultimately all projects like this start with predatory work... why bother with a press release if nothing was happening? It's not like they're putting this stuff out there because they're worried it won't happen FFS.

Just trying to communicate that things are moving, the journey has started, ITS UNDERWAY

I suppose because certain posters can't see immediate progress then it's all a sham.

Absolute dross

Certain posters or maybe majority have no clue about how construction works so just weirdly decide to spout dross on here to be negative. People saying Fulham has been going for 4 years when it's actually more like 10+ given all the pre construction phases etc. That's exactly the phase we're in. Stands and stadiums are very different and harder things to construct that your usual office or resi projects which also still have to go through all the pre con phases, hence why the stand is taking a while. Not like have a Russian oligarch backing the project either that will just proceed with everything no expensive spared / money no object etc

I'm just looking at a picture of the AW having its new advertising strip fitted, and that made me think about looking at a drawn plan of the stand.
As I said before, it seems to me that having the current roof at ground level would be an advantage, as a second tier would only be one tier high. I reckon that if we sacrificed around 3k seats at the back and added a tier with 6k to 8k seats depending on the possible rake, that would obviously be a net gain of 3k to 5k. That would take us to 37k to 39k without work on the WHL.

The footprint could remain the same and the roof could be replaced with something more in keeping with the main stand.

Just time wasting of course, but it would be nice to know why this couldn't happen from someone who knows about building.

The camera platform will be removed, and I expect the club will remove the uprights and support the roof from above in the nearish future as a shorter term improvement.
